Literally never!

While the Internet is a brilliant source for all the beauty information and inspiration you could ever wish for, often the best hair, makeup and skin care wisdom comes from other women in our lives – most notably our sisters, mother and grandmothers.

And it seems the same rings true for celebs: Salma Hayek recently revealed to the New York Times that one of the best pieces of beauty advice she’s ever received came from her very own grandmother.

Salma revealed that she never washes her face in the morning because of a tip her grandmother shared with her when she was younger. “My grandmother taught me that at night your skin replenishes all the things you lost during the day. Also, if I cleanse very well at night, why would it be dirty when I wake up?”

While Salma steers clear of the traditional facial cleansers, she doesn’t go completely skin care-free in the mornings, opting instead for a spritz of rosewater as “it’s so gentle and wakes the skin up,” she explained.

If you find cleansing your skin in the morning tends to strip your skin of its natural oils, or simply want to forgo this step and replace it with Salma’s rosewater trick, we recommend trying Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist, KORA Organics Balancing Rosewater Mist or Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater.

While washing your face in the morning might be optional, find out why double cleansing at night is an absolute must.
