5 clever tricks we learnt from Kendall Jenner’s makeup artist

Including the one product you should never leave home without

Victor Henao is Kendall Jenner’s lead makeup artist for her work with Estée Lauder, and is renowned for his use of fresh, natural-looking makeup to help enhance features. Here he spills some of his top makeup tricks every woman should know.

#1 / Layer your blush

“At the moment I’m obsessed with ‘80s-style blush, applied high on the cheekbones,” says Henao. His technique involves using multiple textures to achieve the desired result. “I use cream blush and then apply powder on top,” he says. Gone overboard? Press a little foundation over the top for balance. We love Estée Lauder Genuine Glow Blushing Crème For Lips & Cheeks with shu uemura glow-on blush

#2 / Create natural-looking arches with ombre brows

“If your brows need extra attention and you need to take the time to fill them in, apply a darker shade at the base of the brow, and switch to a lighter colour at the top,” explains Henao. Just like a hairstylist does with hair colour, this technique creates natural highlights for a softer result. We recommend Dior All-In-One Brow 3D Custom Brow Contouring – it comes with two brow powder shades and a grooming wax.

#3 / Never leave the house without cover

Henao insists that concealer should be number one in your beauty arsenal due to its versatility. “It can cover, but [it’s more about] brightening under the eyes, which will always make you look like you got eight hours of sleep,” he says. It also comes in handy when grooming your brows: “Take a flat concealer brush and use a touch of product to clean up the edges.” Try Tom Ford Correcting Pen, its pink-peach shade on one end is perfect for neutralising dark areas, while the yellow-based shade on the other corrects redness.

#4 / Try a facial massage

Not only does it calm your complexion, Henao says it’s the perfect pick-me-up after a big night. “It assists with [lymphatic drainage],” he says. “I start massaging from the middle of the face and under the eyes, working outwards.”

#5 / Make your lips look bigger

To create the illusion of a fuller pout, Henao turns to a lipstick and lip pencil in neutral shades. Apply correctly by using the pencil to create an outline that’s just slightly above or below your natural lip line, before filling in with lipstick. Another hot tip? Steer clear of any bright or rich shades for this process: “It’s fine if you’re going to follow your natural lip line, but if you’re [trying this approach] with a bright colour, it can get a little embarrassing when the shade begins to disappear.” We like NYX Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencil in Rose with MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Really Me.
