3 easy steps to pamper your skin at home

For when you need some TLC in between appointments

InStyle Contributor / March 21 2017

It can be tricky to find the time for beauty appointments, but beauty therapist Jocelyn Petroni believes giving back to yourself—and your skin—is vital. Here, she explains how to re-create the TLC of a salon in the comfort of your own home.

1

Create ambience

“Even though I spend the majority of my time in the salon, I still love to look after my skin when I’m not working,” says Petroni. That feeling of total relaxation you have when you enter a beauty salon can be replicated at home — Petroni recommends selecting some soothing music, lighting a fragrant candle and, most importantly, making an effort
to relax and de-stress. Try the soothing scent of Natio Jasmine & Vanilla Scented Candle to set the mood.

Try an at-home facial

“While I recommend an in-salon facial every six weeks—or every three months at a minimum—I like to give myself a facial at home once a week,” says Petroni. “Allow your skin to steam in the shower or bath, complete a double cleanse, then follow with a deep exfoliation. Try to use a granular scrub that contains fruit enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells and break down any sebum blocked in the pores.” We love Kiehl’s Pineapple Papaya Facial Scrub.

Use a face mask

“When it comes to choosing the right mask for your skin type, following a few simple rules will help you find one that will provide the best results,” says Petroni. “If your skin is oily or prone to breakouts, opt for a clay-based mask [like Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Facial Masque]. For skin that is dry or dehydrated, choose a formula that is rich and moisturising [such as Lancôme Hydra Intense Masque]. And if you wear the mask in the bath, the steam will help infuse the mask into your skin.”
