PSA: Urban Decay is discontinuing your favourite product

Urban Decay is discontinuing the Naked Palette

And Nicole Richie had a funeral for it

All good things must come to an end – and sadly that day is today, friends. Urban Decay has announced that it’s discontinuing its most popular eyeshadow palette – the iconic Naked Palette.

Yep, it feels like the end of an era.

First launched in 2010, the best-selling Naked eyeshadow palette was a game-changer as far as eyeshadow palettes go (it’s basically the iPhone of makeup), revolutionising daily makeup routines around the world and inspiring so many to fall in love with Urban Decay.

With its included mirror and brush, we reckon these 12 original Naked neutral/bronze hues are still some of the best out of Urban Decay’s entire range of palette selections.

*Sniffs*

And who better to let us down gently about the news than Urban Decay’s brand ambassador Nicole Richie. In a magnificently produced, tear-jerking ‘funeral’, Nicole and a crew of beauty influencers gathered to bid farewell to the OG Naked Palette.

“Everyone has tried to copy you, but no one has been able to capture your true essence,” said a dramatic Nicole.

She shared the clip on her Instagram page, along with a weirdly sexual but nonetheless touching caption: “Today, we mourn our beloved original @urbandecaycosmetics Naked Palette which will be laid to rest after 8 years. I for one am feeling much like the palette...Dark, a little horny, & unapologetically dramatic. Until we meet again.”

In a statement, the brand said, "Today, the beauty world mourns Urban Decay’s beloved Naked Palette, the product that revolutionized neutral eyeshadows. A little bit naughty, often dramatic, and always in the press, the innovative game-changer and category creator will be laid to rest after eight years, without a smudge of regret. Passionate Naked collectors — and pretty much anyone with eyes — will remember Naked as the beauty product that changed their lids forever."

While we still don’t know the reason behind the surprising move, the good news is that you’ll still have a few months to stock up.

Mecca have announced that they won’t be discontinuing the palette until Feburary 2019 – so at least there’s plenty of time to get your hands on it. Phew!
