It's the elf ears for us

Anyone who grew up in the High School Musical generation (it's now been 12 years since the final movie came out, FYI; cue nostalgic tears) is well aware of Vanessa Hudgens' queen status. From red carpet looks to heartwarming rom-coms, the girl can do it all.
But as any Hudgens super fan will also know, she takes Halloween extremely seriously: so seriously in fact that said supporters have coined her not just a queen in general, but more specifically the 'queen of Halloween'.
Why, you ask? Well, in addition to flooding her 'gram with creepy content for all of October, she actually starts on the first of September in order to maximise on the spooky season fun, trialling everything from makeup looks to wigs and prosthetics along the way.
“Told myself every Saturday night I’m dressing up. Even tho it’s to literally chill in my living room. But hey. Spooky season," she shared via social media. That's a level of commitment we can certainly appreciate.
So, instead of scrolling through endless Pinterest pages for creative Halloween hair and makeup ideas, we advise taking a look through Hudgens' personal portfolio instead.
Here are 12 of her top looks from 2020... all hail the Halloween queen.
Hudgens kicked off her Halloween makeup marathon with this spooky shoot, and we honestly don't know if we're more obsessed with the eye makeup or the hair.
After confessing that she’d ordered “like five wigs”, she decicded to put on a ‘hair show’. First up? This curly bob. Her thoughts? “I felt like Annie.” We see that.
“Okay, she cute,” was her review of this one, while questioning whether she trusted herself to cut the bangs shorter. Bonus points for the ‘Witch’ necklace, too.
“I was very inspired by Cabaret,” she said of this snap. But while you may be looking at the headpiece, we’re mesmerised by the grunge-y eyeshadow-lippy combo.
“Never knew elf ears were such a must have. Lol,” she captioned this shot. Honestly, us either, but now we're seriously contemplating adding a pair to cart...
Hudgens decided to pay homage to Moulin Rouge, one of her favourite films, with a Satine-inspired red lip look, and we have three words: pulling. it. off.
She calls this one ‘spooky Bratz doll’, and we’re fans. But while the overdrawn lips and bulky lower lashes are great, it's still the glittery bat hair accessories for us.
Cleopatra-esque floating liner is “always a vibe” according to Hudgens. And hey, why not follow her lead and add a beauty spot while you're at it?
We’ve always said it: it’s extremely important to match your wig to the bloody handprints in your bathtub.
The spookiest part of this look? The missing nails, according to Hudgens. ‘Back to our usual spooky content. I lost two nails today. Scary. I know," she joked.
Okay, she might technically go by 'actress', but with blending skills like these, we recommend an 'actress-meets-Halloween-makeup-artist' hybrid title.
It appears the elf ears have become a staple in her spooky season creations now. “Happy little elf”,” she captioned this pic of her latest look.
