There’s almost nothing worse than curling or straightening your hair only to end up with a) seriously severe neck sweat and b) your style ruined by the heat and humidity.

The solution? A cute updo that’s as stylish as it is functional.

Here a few of our fave celeb ‘dos – including easy styles for long hair and chic hairstyles for short hair.

The messy nape bun

The more haphazard the better! Perfect for those with shorter locks, gather your hair into a bun at the nape of your neck, twist into a bun and secure with some bobby pins.

The glam top knot

Make your top knot night-time appropriate by keeping the base slicked back and the bun itself quite loose with some strands strategically falling out. Pair with a bold lip and you’re sorted.

The ballerina bun

The key to nailing this is ensuring your hair is completely frizz-free and you don’t get any bits sprouting from the bun. Read: hairspray and bobby pins. And if your hair is too short to twist into a bun, you can always fake it and wrap what you have around a foam bun styler.

The classic ponytail

You really can’t go wrong with the classic pony, but if you want to give it a stylish twist, keep the hair on your crown sleek and straight, the ponytail high, and make sure there are no kinks in the tail.

The dishevelled ponytail

The ‘I didn’t even try but how good does it look?’ ponytail. Keep your hair loose and a little messy on the crown and use a straightener to add some waves to the tail. If your hair is shorter, make sure to have some bobby pins handy to pin any strays that are too short to fit into your ponytail.

The pretty ponytail

It’s amazing how something as simple as black velvet ribbon can instantly add style to an otherwise simple look. You could also opt for a metallic cuff or even wrap a section of your hair around the base.

The fishtail braid

Whether slung over your shoulder, worn up high on the crown of your head, or sitting low and centred, a fishtail braid will look brilliant. For a more dishevelled finish, loosen the braid with your fingers.

The short-hair braid

Those with pixie cuts, bobs, or lobs can rejoice – there’s a braid for short hair! Part your hair where you please and French braid each side back to the nape of your neck and pin into place.

The braid-and-bun combo

Either braid a section of your hair from your parting down to the base and gather all of your hair into a bun, or create a plait and twist it into a bun and secure for a style that seems way more complicated than it looks!
