Anna Heinrich on speedy beauty solutions and why she'd never try a vampire facial

Plus, the time she spaced re: expiration dates...

Digital Beauty Editor / February 19 2021

If you've ever found yourself googling how to get hair, skin (insert feature here) like Anna Heinrich, you're not alone; we've all caught ourselves doing it after one of her striking selfies graces our feeds.

But because search engines apparently don't know everything after all, we decided to go straight to the source; Heinrich herself. Here, we chat to her about everything beauty, from her favourite foundation to the treatment she's been harping on about for an entire decade...

Anna Heinrich’s skin care routine

“Since hitting the big 3-0 and having baby Elle I have certainly noticed my skin change," Heinrich tells us, noting that her skin concerns (and so her goals) have shifted considerably since becoming a mum.

"I’m someone who constantly re-evaluates what products I use on my skin to suit where I’m up to in my life. You and your skin are forever changing and it’s important to focus on your needs at the time. Hydration and dark blemishes have been the biggest and most notable change [since pregnancy]. With that said, I’m currently using the Olay Niacinamide + Hyaluronic Super Serum [as it] focuses on deeply hydrating the skin [while also brightening]."

Anna Heinrich’s morning and evening rituals

A good serum isn't the only thing she relies on, though. “[After skin care in the morning], I top off my routine with a glass of warm water and lemon to kick start my day, [and then before bed] I grab an eye mask, and some magnesium spray to settle in for a good night’s sleep," she shares of her morning and evening rituals. They sound like pretty delightful bookends to us.

Anna Heinrich’s skin journey

“Overall, I’ve been pretty lucky with my skin, but it certainly hasn’t been perfect," Heinrich explains. "As a teen, I had my fair share of acne/blemishes, and when it hit, I felt like I couldn’t leave the house for weeks! In hindsight, it wasn’t as bad as I had once thought, [though]."

"My skin has also been fairly sensitive to various products so I’ve had to be careful with what I put on my skin and not overload it with [topicals]. I choose wisely and also focus on what I put in my body. As soon as I eat some milk chocolate I see the effects the following day….not that I let that stop me!”

Anna Heinrich’s favourite (and least favourite) beauty treatments

Her fave treatment? Lash extensions; in fact, she's a longtime fan. “I think I’ve been promoting this for the last 10 years,” she says. “You wake up feeling fresh despite only having four hours of sleep – and I need that more than ever.”

The more extreme options aren’t in the cards for her, though. “[I’d never try] a ‘blood facial’ or ‘vampire facial’ because it just looks so painful! Not even Kimmy K could persuade me with that one! Ouch!!!”

Anna Heinrich’s makeup routine

As a mum, Heinrich is all about pulling a polished makeup look together as quickly as humanly possible, and she relies on two specific superstar products to do so.

“[I’m a big fan of] Too Faced Born This Way Foundation – it’s the perfect colouring for my skin tone and great for sensitive skin,” she says, noting that she’s currently mixing ‘Warm Beige’ and ‘Warm Nude’ to get her perfect shade.

Once her base is in place, it’s all about the eyes: “Napoleon Perdis Luxe Lids Eye Stix in Taupe It Up adds a little something something without all the effort,” she adds.

The girl’s got great hair, so we were very intrigued as to what makes it into her kit. First on her list? “Label M Heat Protecting Spray – it protects your hair from the constant drying out [from hot tools]," she confirms.

Her hot tool of choice, however, luckily does its very best not to cause damage:  [“I love my] Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer – it gives a great finish and doesn’t dry your hair out like most. Elle doesn’t get frightened of the noise which is a bonus." A bonus for sure; no blow-dry (no matter how bouncy) is worth waking a sleeping baby...

She also relies on purple shampoo to keep her blonde at its deliciously creamy best: “I’m currently using [the] Kérastase Blond Absolu [one],” she reveals.

Anna Heinrich’s best beauty advice

Heinrich wants you to know two things like the back of your hand: your own face and the expiry dates gracing the products you're applying.

“Don’t compare yourself to others and focus on who you are and what works for you; get to know your skin," she says. “Oh, and don’t forget that all products have an expiration date! I once had a lipstick for over 10 years – I guess I only used it once a year,” she laughs.
