The product

If you haven’t already tried micellar water, boy have you been missing out. We’ve been obsessed with the stuff since it started popping up everywhere on the Australian beauty scene a couple of years ago and TBH we don’t know what we did without it.

If you’re not already familiar with the benefits of this amazing cleansing water, let us fill you in (and please - go get some!). Micellar water earns its name from the tiny micelles suspended in it that essentially act as little magnets for dirt, oil and makeup. This in turn cleanses the skin without the need for harsh cleansers, scrubbing or rubbing. And now, Bioré have taken micellar water to the next level by introducing a formula specifically tailored to combat typical oily skin woes.

Bioré Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water is not your ordinary micellar water. The formula contains Japanese micellar water technology to cleanse the skin, as well as charcoal, which works to absorb excess oil, reduce shine and mattify the complexion. It’s also dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested, pH balanced, oil-free and doesn’t clog pores – absolute musts for oily skin. Plus, there’s no need to rinse, which makes it the ultimate Holy Grail beauty buy for our inner lazy girl.

It’s ticking all our boxes, so what did the Review Crew® think?

Our panel of Review Crew® testers put this product to the test.

The lowdown

That it was specifically formulated for oily skin: The Review Crew® loved that the formula was custom-made for oily skin and left their complexions nicely mattified. Many reviewers also commented that they had found other micellar waters left their skin with an oily or sticky residue – but that wasn’t the case here!

How gentle the formula was: Members were thrilled that the micellar water thoroughly cleansed their skin and reduced oil, but didn’t make their complexion feel stripped of moisture.

How easy it was to use: Reviewers loved how quick and easy the micellar water made the cleansing process. Many of our Review Crew® members commented on how effortlessly it swept away waterproof mascara.

The verdict

“I am a frequent user of micellar waters and most leave me unimpressed, but Biorè Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water was certainly a stand out. It was highly effective at removing heavy makeup without rubbing and was equally good at refreshing and mattifying my skin on make-up free days.”

“I loved this micellar water! As an oily skinned gal, it gave me a clean and refreshed feeling without stripping my skin, which I loved. It removed my waterproof mascara without a trace as well!”

“I have used a lot of different micellar waters but this was the first time I had used one that had charcoal in it. It took off all my makeup really quickly and easily. Not only did the micellar water remove my makeup, but it helped keep my skin matte and oil-free without irritating my skin or making it dry.”
