To say I’m a skin care lover would be quite a considerable understatement. I’m constantly switching up my routine and trying new products, so much so that my bathroom cupboard is overflowing with a wide variety of lotions and potions. And while that might sound like a beauty lover’s dream, using anywhere between five and 10 products each morning and night was becoming a little overwhelming (and causing sensitivity), which is why I wasn’t really looking to incorporate anything new into my daily skin care routine.
However, I quickly changed my tune when I found out Clinique had just launched Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly – a transparent and oil-free, hydrating moisturiser that looks and feels exactly like jelly!
Read on to find out what I thought about the water-like moisturiser:
#1 / It works overtime to hydrate skin
Like many people, my skin becomes a shadow of its former self during the winter months. And with it constantly being exposed to a brutal combination of cold temperatures, blustering winds and dry office heating, it’s no wonder it’s been looking and feeling particularly dry recently. However, that quickly changed after using Clinique’s lightweight jelly. In just a few days the moisturiser left my skin feeling intensely hydrated and plump throughout the entire day rather than just for a few hours after application. That supple feeling I was experiencing can be attributed to a nourishing blend of glycerin, hyaluronic acid and natural moisturising fact (NMF) ingredients that work to balance the water and lipid balance naturally occurring in skin.
#2 / It made me realise the importance of pollution-fighting skin care
This transparent jelly has been formulated with Clean-Shield Technology™, which promises to strengthen and protect the skin while making it 87 per cent less vulnerable to pollution. And although it’s hard to tangibly measure how well it protected me from environmental aggressors, it certainly enhanced my awareness of them.
As I live and work in the heart of Sydney, completely avoiding pollution simply isn’t possible. But knowing about the damage that pollution and free radicals can cause to my skin – namely premature ageing, loss of collagen and elastin, and age spots – meant incorporating the jelly (which promises to ward off that damage for up to 24 hours at a time) became a necessity.
#3 / It suited my skin type really well
While I’ve already mentioned how intensely hydrated the jelly left my skin, I also loved that it didn’t leave my complexion feeling overloaded or drenched in moisture. Instead, it struck the perfect balance for my combination skin type. Additionally, as my skin is prone to sensitivity, particularly when new products are added to my routine, I was a tad nervous that the addition of a new moisturiser would cause my skin to flare up. Luckily, the protective jelly didn’t cause any irritation or inflammation whatsoever – something I attribute to the lack of parabens, phthalates and fragrances in the formulation.
The verdict
After two weeks of trialling this product, I am happy to report I thoroughly enjoyed using the Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly. It perfectly suited my skin type, fought off the effects of pollution, instantly moisturised and nourished my skin – and continued to do so throughout the day. The unique jelly texture also made application a breeze!
