The treatment Demi Moore never skips before the red carpet

The secret to her youthful glow isn't the substance
The Substance star Demi Moore just secured the first Golden Globe win of her career at 62 years old, and she doesn't show any sign of slowing down either.
In fact, we think it's fair to say that after four decades in Hollywood, Moore is experiencing a renaissance of sorts. Although, it's hard to believe that the actress has been working for as long as she has. Especially when you consider that she frequently outshines younger celebrities on the red carpet.
Naturally, we've taken an interest in Moore's youthful glow, spending an embarrassing amount of time scouring the Internet for every single beauty secret she swears by.
Unfortunately, there's no simple-fix substance to speak of — Moore cites the self-possession that comes with age as the secret to feeling and looking more beautiful.
"The best thing about getting older I think is that you gain wisdom, comfort in your own own skin, humility, and I think a deeper appreciation for life — I'm having more fun the older I get," the 62 year old recently told ELLE.
But Moore's also been frank over the years about her love of skin care, and regular appointments with her facialist and energy healer Terri Lawton, which all contribute to her red carpet skin prep routine.
She prefers holistic facial treatments
According to Moore's facialist, Terri Lawton, the 62 year old likes to incorporate a variety of elements into her treatments.
"I've been working with Demi for more than 20 years. Working with the concept, and energies of the whole, yields the fullness and depth of who we are," she shared with InStyle. "With Demi, I see her true beauty and its depth. But Demi does not dabble in this concept. She lives it 24/7 and is authentic in her body, mind, and spirit."
"This allows for her skin to look beautiful and alive, giving the dimension we are looking for," Lawton continued. "With my facials, I work with products that best match the skin's energy internally and spiritually."
Whether that's lymphatic massage with a gua sha, or a microneedling treatment, Moore's focus is to seek skin treatments that promote an external visualisation of her vital spirit.
As Samantha Appel, founder of Australia's leading skin needling clinic The Skin Bar, tells BEAUTYcrew — "microneedling is the perfect pre-event treatment".
"Your skin will reap the rewards for weeks and months after," she explains. "In just one treatment alone, microneedling will stimulate more collagen production than you lose in one year."
But that's not all — microneedling also promises anti-ageing benefits — softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, evening the skin's tone and texture, and reducing pore size. Plus, it boasts minimal downtime, with most people experiencing some redness for a few hours following the procedure — making it easy to schedule before an event or appearance.
She swears by a simple, sensitive skin-friendly skin care routine
"My skin care routine is generally less is more... My skin is hyper, hyper-sensitive, so I can't have anything with fragrance," Moore told Harper's Bazaar. "It has to be really high quality, clean, active ingredients."
"I have two different cleansers, depending on what I've got going on. I have one that's Retrouvé [Luminous Cleansing Elixir] ($132.93 from Revolve), which is more of an elixir, [and has] a nice texture," she explained. "[But] if I need to feel more clean, then I have my Cosmedix Benefit Clean [Gentle Cleanser] ($75 from Oz Hair & Beauty), and that's more like a soap."
"One of the key things I think, that has totally saved my skin is the Makeup Eraser cloth ($29.95 from Oz Hair & Beauty)," she revealed to the publication. "My mother always drilled in me no matter what, that you should wash, like cleanse and moisturise your skin, [and] I'm telling you this thing, literally takes everything off. Look at this, don't you see, it's magic."

She prioritises products that uplift her skin as well as her spirit
Before Moore starts applying anything to her skin, she likes to set the mood with the Ilāpothecary Beat The Blues Room Spray.
"It actually changes the whole mood of everything," she explained. "It's a combination of tuberose, clary sage, a little bit of orange, and it actually really does what it says it does — it's completely uplifting."
After switching up the vibe of her bathroom, the actress starts her skin care routine by applying the NIOD Copper Amino Isolate 3 1:1 Serum ($143 from MYER) — "it's a serum that you do morning and night".
"It just has incredible energy to it," gushed Moore. "Your whole face feels uplifted — somebody said today that it actually does tighten your skin — but [I think] it makes it [feel] more alive."

She mixes her moisturisers to replenish her skin
While most might prefer a serum cocktail, Moore is more of a moisturiser mixologist of sorts.
During her interview with Harper's Bazaar she shared that she was combining one of her favourite moisturisers — Biologique [Recherche Crème Dermopurifiante (Available via consultation from Biologique Recherche) — with a small amount of Biologique Recherche's La Grande Crème Moisturiser] (Available via consultation from Biologique Recherche).
"I always put it on my hands first. One, because it allows you to be much more gentle with your face and your skin. [Second], I always like to put any extra down on [my] chest [and] boobs," she explained.

She relieves muscle tension by massaging her face with a gua sha
"If I've just been working and I have a full face of makeup, I will usually put on a mix of different moisturisers to make sure that I'm replenishing my skin," she went on to say. "It's usually a mix of the Biologique [Recherche Crème Dermopurifiante] (Available via consultation from Biologique Recherche), the Retrouvé [Intensive Replenishing Facial Moisturiser] ($673.54 from Revolve), and a new oil — [Ilāpothecary Vitamin A C D & E Face Oil]."
Moore usually just pats a few drops of the facial oil into her skin using her hands, but if she's feeling adventurous, she'll give herself a lymphatic massage using her gua sha — Georgia Louise's Lift+Sculpt Butterfly Stone ($122 from Georgia Louise).
"It activates the blood flow in your skin, and then kind of moves out all the tension," she explained. "When you're over 50, when you feel like your skin is hitting the floor, this actually is an incredible uplift. That, and smiling — smiling's the best free anti-ageing secret available."
