The 5 beauty essentials Emily Ratajkowski keeps in her handbag

Including a lipstick without a lid (but don’t judge her!)

Editor / May 10 2023

We love a celebrity 'what's in my bag' video, but it's tricky to find the right level of 'real'. Prep too much and commenters will accuse you of being a bit phony (do you truly tote around a garment from your new clothing collab?), but go in without a quick clutter clear and some less-than-hygienic habits may be revealed.

The latter was the case for Emily Ratajkowski, who became significantly more relatable after her recent bag breakdown in a Vogue Spain video. In addition to dropping the names of some of her most beloved beauty buys, she also let viewers in on some of the less polished parts of her purse. And yes, they include a lipstick sans lid. Let's get into everything you need to know...

Emily Ratajkowski's handbag beauty essentials

Multipurpose balm

The first product was pretty standard: a multipurpose moisturising balm. “An item I can’t live without is either Aquaphor ($11.92 at iHerb) or CeraVe [Healing Ointment ($27.50 at Amazon). It] does many, many things," Ratajkowski revealed. "It’s skin care, it’s a glossy lip, I’ll put this under my eyes on a plane, or before I go to bed. Sometimes it’s used on my son’s butt.” Wow, multipurpose indeed!

Eyeliner

It's not unusual to carry an eyeliner, but Ratajkowski makes sure hers really earns its spot in her bag. In fact, eyes are only one of three places she applies it.

“This [product] is really really key because it basically takes care of my whole face,” she shared. “I do the corners of my eyes with a little bit of the brown pencil for an eyeliner moment. I fill in my freckles and my mole, and I also use this as a lip liner that I then kind of buff out with the Aquaphor.”

She didn't name the brand, product, or shade, but if we had to guess based on her historic preferences, the shade she described, and the product packaging, we'd say she was holding up a Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Eyeliner ($37 at Charlotte Tilbury).

Lip oil

Like all of us, Ratajkowski likes to keep a few lip colour options on her at all times. One of her new go-tos? The Rare Beauty lip oils. “I’ve turned into a Rare Beauty girl; I really love the cheek tint, but I just got this new lip and I really like it. It's a good colour," she explained of her newfound fave, the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil in what looked like the shade 'Joy' ($35 at Sephora).

Lipstick

Okay, now for the semi-gross part. “I always have a lipstick," Ratajkowski shared, realising that viewers may be wondering, um, why the hell hers didn't have a lid?! "This one does not have a top – do not judge me. I always have a lipstick that I can use both for my lips and for my cheeks – I like a sunburned blush look, and I put this on [lips, cheeks, and] the top of my nose. That's my secret”

Hey, stop that, she said don't judge her! In all seriousness, though, who hasn't had a moment where their fave shade lost its lid somewhere in their purse. You figure it'll turn up so you just... wait.

FYI, it looks like Ratajkowski's 'too good to toss' lipstick bullet might just be the cult-fave colour 'Pillow Talk' in the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick ($49 at Charlotte Tilbury). We wouldn't waste that stuff either!

That wasn't the only realistic/iffy part either. Ratajkowski also pulled out, as she put it, "a little compact mirror that has gum on it because I'm disgusting". Did we mention we're loving the honesty? And according to the comments, we're not the only ones. "The gum on the compact really resonated with me and I appreciate that lol," one fan wrote.

Hey, whether you're slightly grossed out or not, you can't say she wasn't real with us!
