Hailey Bieber's 'frosted glass nails' are exactly what we're asking for at our next appointment
Another day, another elite nail trend courtesy of Hailey Bieber. When it comes down to it, nobody starts a manicure movement like her. The words 'glazed donut manicure' are permanently etched into our memories, but alas, that might be where they're staying for now. Because there's a fresh take on colourless nails emerging for the season ahead, and Bieber is (naturally) at the forefront once more.
‘Frosted glass nails’ are the new trend to try, and frankly, we think a salon appointment tomorrow seems more than reasonable...
Frosted Glass Nails
So what’s the difference between a frosted glass finish and a glazed donut one? The level of shimmer. Unlike glazed donut nails which read as ‘sparkly’ upon first impression, frosted glass are more 'cloudy', despite their shared clear, slightly metallic colour. Less glitter, more haziness.
It makes sense that Bieber’s signature nail look has to evolve with her, and frosted glass nails do read as a slightly cooler, more elevated evolution of her OG shimmery polish.
Let's take a look...
There’s less opacity to them too: picture a frosted glass door. You can slightly see through it, but it’s not exactly clear. You can see where Bieber’s fingers end and her nails go on, almost creating a French manicure effect under some lights. So yes, basically you’re getting two manicures for the price of one.
You can leave it to your in-salon professional of choice if that’s more your style, but if you’re inclined to DIY, the look is super simple to recreate. You’ll only need a single polish, in a cloudy, almost-clear, frosted white-silver shade. Sounds like something extremely niche/impossible to find? Luckily we’ve done the shade matching legwork for you. Generally you’ll see most success with formulas designed to act as iridescent top coats. They’re not quite clear, not quite opaque, and not quite sparkly, delivering the ideal frosted glass finish.
Try the:
Lakur Londontown Chrome Topper in ‘Starry Chrome’ ($19.95 at Beauty Affairs)
Dazzle Dry Nail Lacquer in ‘Stardust’ ($47 at Dazzle Dry)
Essie Gel Metallic Glaze Topcoat in ‘Blushed Metal’ ($18.99 at Adore Beauty)
Now, as they say in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, frost yourselves. Or at least your nails. No need to go overboard.
