Twice a year, Haute Couture Week takes place in Paris, offering fashion designers the chance to let their imaginations run rampant and present their most breathtaking creations.
But the fashion on display isn’t the only spectacle of Haute Couture Week. The hair and makeup looks are usually nothing like what you’ll see on the ready-to-wear runways. So naturally, it’s one of our favourite places to look for next-level beauty inspiration.
Presenting our favourite beauty looks from Paris Haute Couture Week Fall/Winter 2019/2020.
We spotted this unique ponytail at Valentino and love the unusual placement of the mini plaits, which have then been wound around the base of the ponytail. But most of all, we’re obsessing over this glittery eyebrow situation (check out our tips on how to recreate this festival-worthy look).
Taking inspiration from Gabrielle Chanel’s love of books, the CHANEL show saw models with slicked all-business hair and sharp flicks of eyeliner take to the runway. “It’s serious hair for serious bookworms,” explained hairstylist Sam McKnight of his vision for the hair.
Although the models’ faces were shrouded beneath mesh veils, it was impossible to miss these breathtaking beauty looks. Creative and Image Director for Dior Makeup, Peter Philips used Dior 3 Coulers Tri(o)blique in 053 Smoky Canvas to create a “smoky halo” around the eyes that was “both soft and intense”. Hair was pulled back into ballerina buns with tiny braids placed here and there (we feel a micro-braid trend coming on!).
Jean Paul Gaultier
Featuring heavily glittered eyes and sky-high ponytails, the models at Gaultier’s show looked like they were ready to hit the club straight after the show. Although, based on these retro yet futuristic looks, whether that club is in the ‘80s or the future, we’re still deciding!
Unlike many other shows during Haute Couture Week, understated was the word of the hour at Vauthier’s show. Hair was worn in loose undone waves and minimal makeup was applied to allow the models’ natural beauty to shine right on through. Refreshing!
Deep red and black eyeliner was blended out to create this unique cat-eye look at Elie Saab and the result was STUNNING. As for the hair, sculptural buns and French rolls added a dramatic flair that still managed to look pretty.
This gravity-defying hair was spotted on the runway at Givenchy and honestly, we’re not sure how it’s staying up! There must be at least 10 cans of hairspray in there. Makeup on the other hand was kept totally pared-back, letting this wild ‘do take centre stage.
Armani took a step back in time and presented this gorgeous vintage-inspired beauty look. Eyes were contoured in neutral tones and interestingly, lashes were curled with spoons to give a true vintage doll vibe. Pretty!
