A scroll through Instagram during this time of the year can be heart-wrenching; it seems like everyone is away, sunning it up in a tropical or Mediterraean beach location. For those that can’t make it overseas, there is a method to easing the pain - with a fragrance that carries a sunny character.
“Sunshine, or ‘solar’ [themed fragrances are] an emerging trend,” says Erica Moore, Fragrance Evaluator of Fragrances of the World. “Typically, perfumers use a combination of citrus notes, summery florals such as orange blossom or tiare, and warm ambery and skin-like musks to create this style of fragrance. The effect is a light, diffusive interpretation of more traditional floral oriental or soft oriental fragrances.”
Sound good? Here are six sunny fragrances that are new *and* definitely worth trying.
Amouage Portrayal Woman
Bursting with notes like jasmine, tobacco, vanilla and elemi (which smells lemony and slightly peppery), Amouage Portrayal Woman is a sophisticated scent that’s equal parts pleasing and pretty (won’t you look at the packaging!).
L’Artisan Au Bord De L’Eau Eau De Cologne
Zesty bergamot and lemon collide with soothing neroli and violet wood in L’Artisan Au Bord De L’Eau Eau De Cologne. The result? An invigorating citrus and floral blend that’s bright and cheerful, and easy to wear every single day (we promise you won’t get sick of it).
Louis Vuitton Sun Song
For such a fabulous bottle, you just know that the juice inside is equally spectacular. Louis Vuitton Sun Song features layers of zingy orange blossom, lemon and musk, and can mentally take you to a tropical island, far far away.
Ouai North Bondi EDP
Inspired by our very own Bondi Beach, this spritz contains notes like lemon, Rose de Mai, magnolia, blackberry, amber and white musk, and smells just like what a perfectly still day would smell like - pleasant, uplifting, and a serious mood improver.
Marc Jacobs Daisy Sunshine EDT
The bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy Sunshine EDT itself is a big giveaway to what the scent smells like inside: Discover playful notes like juicy white strawberry, marigold and white woods, which are bound to put a smile on your face.
Giorgio Armani Light di Gioia
You can’t go past Giorgio Armani Light di Gioia, which contains notes like sparkling Italian bergamot, jasmine, gardenia and woody accord to put you in a better mood and remind you of all things summery.
