Move over candles!

Whether you’re preparing for guests to visit your home (it *is* nesting season, after all) or are just looking to freshen up your living room or bedroom, it’s worth looking into a home fragrance situation that’ll help elevate the ambience. And no, we’re not talking about regular candles or stick diffusers; while we do adore them, right now we’re reaching for more innovative home fragrances such as incense holders and even potpourri crystals to seriously spice things up.
Cire Trudon Matières Madurai Room Spray
A room spray is the easiest no-fuss way to invigorate a space, which is why the Cire Trudon Matières Madurai Room Spray has earned a spot in this gallery. Besides being housed in a slightly OTT vessel (which is exactly why we can’t keep our eyes off it), the juice inside is invitingly bright all thanks to the solo note of pure jasmine from India.
Maison Balzac The Marble Hand
We stopped dead in our tracks when we first came across the Maison Balzac The Marble Hand, and think it’s the perfect conversation starter for any home. It’s inspired by a scene from La Belle et Le Bete (a 1946 black and white movie by Jean Cocteau) and is interestingly made of white marble powder. At the top of the finger it holds a single stick of incense, which is a simple way to incorporate the scent of sandalwood into your home. (Photography by Rachael Kara)
Bastide Ambre d'Or Potpourri Crystals
Could potpourri be making a comeback? We’d like to think so, just so we can put these Bastide Ambre d'Or Potpourri Crystals to good use. The beautiful blend of patchouli, sandalwood, labdanum (which is a balance between fruity and amber notes) and sweet musk works well in any home, and can be left in a small bowl to lightly scent a space over time.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Les Bulles d'Agathe Scented Bubbles in Cold Mint
The Maison Francis Kurkdjian Les Bulles d'Agathe Scented Bubbles are a sure-fire way to brighten up your mood; simply take the wand out of the tube and blow to release scented bubbles that will refresh your space in an instant. Cold mint may seem like a top choice for the warmer months, but it’s a no-brainer scent to neutralise any smells all year round.
Diptyque Electric Diffuser
Forget wrangling with little wooden sticks and a pot of scented syrup to add a pleasant smell to your home; the Diptyque Electric Diffuser can do exactly the same, but in a sleek manner. All you have to do is load up the device with a scented Diptyque disc, turn it on and let it do its thing. Easy.
Officine Universelle Buly Scented Matches in Alexandrie
Usually you’d use a match to light the candle that’s going to scent your room, but how about using the match itself to fragrance your home? The Officine Universelle Buly Scented Matches are coated with a special scent, which you can smell when you burnthem. Our favourite is Alexandrie, which smells of lemon, blackcurrant, mint, ginger, vanilla and moss.
If candles are more your thing, check out these brands that will take your addiction to the next level.
