The new season calls for a fresh ‘do, and where better to look than the international runways. Here are our favourite hairstyles from NYFW that are a cinch to copy.
Trend to try: Neat knot
For the upcoming spring and summer seasons ahead, follow Ralph Lauren’s lead and try a knotted bun pulled back low towards the nape of the neck.
Trend to try: Blow-dry perfection
We’ve got serious hair envy from this look. Get this glossy tousled hairstyle from the Cushnie et Ochs show by blow-drying hair with a large bristle brush and finishing with a shine serum.
Trend to try: Tight knot
“The Thakoon look is inspired by American fashion covers – a modernised, messy twist on the classic chignon,” says Odile Gilbert, Kérastase Paris Consulting Hairstylist. Backstage, the models had their hair saturated with Kérastase Paris Crème de la Crème, but you can get the same effect at home with Kérastase Paris L’Incroyable Blowdry Lotion. Then pull the hair back, twist haphazardly, and secure with a black elastic and pins.
Trend to try: Twisted bun
This casual yet whimsical hairstyle from Marissa Webb is great for long hair. To get the look at home, twist a section of hair on either side of your head towards the centre, and secure tightly in place with a hair tie.
Trend to try: Bejewelled
"Sleek and sophisticated with a touch of glamour, this romantic and edgy, off-the-face style beautifully contrasts the ethereal and feminine spring/summer collection,” says Moroccanoil Global Ambassador Antonio Corral Calero. Models at the Marchesa show had their hair slicked back with Moroccanoil Treatment and adorned with a sparkly silver clip in line with the cheekbones to finish.
Trend to try: Half up, half down
At Carolina Herrera, models had their hair pulled back in a half up pinned style. Achieve the look at home by spritzing TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Dry Defining Spray into the roots for texture and grit, then take a two-inch section above the ear from the right, pull it to the left, and pin it down. Do the same for the left side.
Trend to try: Sleek and straight
If it’s good enough for Victoria Beckham, it’s good enough for us. Try this hairstyle for yourself by priming damp hair with Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Treatment Primer Cream to protect hair from heat styling and promote shine, then dry off with ghd professional hairdryer and a boar bristle brush until completely dry. Part down the centre and tuck hair behind your ears.
Trend to try: Tied with a bow
Ponytails at the Monique Lhuillier show were prettied up with a piece of black grosgrain ribbon and finished with a dose of high-gloss shine using Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray.
Trend to try: Preppy and pretty
Models at the Tibi show had their hair smoothed with Aveda Damage Remedy Split End Repair, pulled back into a ponytail and accessorised with a belt buckle tie that was designed specifically for the hair look. To get the look at home, try a textured ribbon instead.
