We think we can all agree that when it comes to hair straighteners, we’re all old hacks at this point.

VS Sassoon Steam Straight Brilliance - VSS9900A is a new player in the game of hair straightening, which utilises low temperatures and steam technology to give you your smoothest, silkiest, and (most importantly) straightest strands yet.

The conditioning steam straightening tool helps to smooth and add shine to even the most stubborn of strands, so you can achieve poker-straight hair that lasts up to 24-hours in a single pass (goals).

The lowdown

Here’s what the Review Crew® loved about the VS Sassoon Steam Straight Brilliance - VSS9900A.

How quickly it straightened their hair: A number of our members were unsure if the steam straightener was going to hold up against their usual ceramic iron straightener. The overwhelming consensus? Not only did the steam setting straighten hair just as effectively, but in most cases, it speeded up the hair styling process completely.

How silky, soft and smooth it made their hair feel: Reviewers were also shocked at just how smooth, soft and silky their hair felt after using the steam setting on their hair for the first time. Many noted that the results lasted a lot longer than traditional straighteners too.

The non-damaging, low temperature settings: Most of our reviewers were used to using straighteners with temperature settings up to 200ºC. So they were pleasantly surprised to find they were able to get similar or superior results using the steam straightener at only 140ºC.

The verdict

“With my GHD my hair would kink at the ends after a few hours, but with the steam straightener it did not kink and it did not frizz either. I loved how it straightened thicker sections of my hair as opposed to my GHD which would only work on small sections. I really like that the steam does not dry the hair out and makes it feel smooth and look really shiny. I was a little concerned when filling the well on the straightener thinking that somehow I would break it, but it was simple and easy. I loved that it came with a heat glove, the only other inclusion which would be of great benefit is a heat mat. I have used the Silver Bullet Straightener and GHD and had great results from both, but the Steam Straightener gives a far better result.”

“I was blown away by this product! Not only does it straighten in one pass, but it leaves your hair feeling so soft. I have thick and frizzy hair and the Steam Straight Brilliance glides through my hair easily and the steam element leaves it looking shiny and beautiful. The steam technology is so cool and easy to use, but the straightener can also be used without steam too. The wide tongs make it quick to straighten my hair and maneuver. Having frizzy hair I believe the biggest game changer has been the conditioning steam this uses. Not only was it super quick and easy, it kept my hair super straight all day and for the next few days till my next wash!”

“WOW WOW WOW, I honestly didn’t expect this when I first read about this straightener. The idea of a steam iron kinda freaked me out but this was just so good! I used it at 140 degrees and using the steam, it was very impressive. I thought the steam would make my hair frizzy but it left it smooth and silky. It mentions a “poker straight-in-one-pass” and I couldn’t believe this was actually true, my generally frizzy and wavy hair only needed one single pass (sometimes 2) to be completely straight.”
