4 ways to wear orange

Add a pop of colour with this transeasonal shade

If you’re searching for a makeup colour that’ll pack a punch and be totally transeasonal, look no further than orange. This poppy shade can be spotted during summer sunsets and on autumnal leaves, and works a treat on all skin tones. Here, makeup artist Heidi Scarlett King shares her best advice for wearing it on your nails, lips, eyes and complexion.

1

On your nails

These shades work best with a tan, but also look fabulous when you wear all-white outfits or colour block with that same shade through your accessories. It's always great to have fun with nails as it's the easiest way to wear bright colours. Try Rimmel London 60 Seconds Super Shine Nail Polish in Orgasm.

2

On your lips

A slick of orange or coral on your lips (try Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fiery Sunset) is the quickest way to make a statement. However, a bold colour like this should be the focus for your look so pare back the rest of your makeup. “Pair orange or peach lip colours with a subtle gold or beige eyeshadow on your lids,” suggests King.

3

On your eyes

Feeling ambitious? Apply a wash a coral shadow, such as Napoleon Perdis Color Disc in Tequila Sunrise, onto eyelids for a flash of colour when you blink. “If you have a lighter skin tone, avoid taking these shades too high along the crease as it can look over the top,” says King. “Also, use a warm brown and blend it into the crease for added depth.”

4

On your cheeks

Bring your complexion to life with a swirl of peach onto the apples of your cheeks - simple and best of all, this orange hue suits all skin tones. “Matte blushes will give more definition to your overall look, whereas a shimmery blush will look softer,” explains King. Try NYX Ombré Blush in Soft Flush.
