Your new go-to second-day hairstyle

The TRESemmé trick that takes a few seconds

Beauty Crew Editor / April 11 2016

The day after you’ve washed and styled your hair can very easily become the day you throw it into a ponytail or bun. But thanks to Orlando Pita, TRESemmé Hair Director for NYFW, there’s another way you can style your second-day hair that a) requires little effort, and b) instantly ups the cool factor of your look.

TOP TIP: This is a good style to try for Sunday brunch, when the curls or waves you may have created the night before have dropped a little but still have some texture.

1

Reduce oiliness

If your roots are a little oily or flat, spray some dry shampoo and massage it in. Make sure to spray from about 30 cm away so you don’t get any white patches.

Try: TRESemmé Instant Refresh Volumizing Dry Shampoo.

2

Add texture if needed

You can work with the hair you’ve woken up with, but if you want to create some more waves, use a curling wand to add those bends.

TOP TIP: Orlando suggests keeping things uniform, “don’t do your waves the same way you did the wave before it. Keep the waves uneven and leave some bits straight.”

3

Get twisting

Grab a section of hair, about 3 cm thick, next to your part (either on the left or right side, whichever you prefer), and start twisting it down towards the nape of your neck.

As you work your twist down, keep grabbing hair from near your hairline to add to the twist, making sure you wind it around with the rest of the section for a seamless result.

TOP TIP: For extra edge and increased volume at the root, create a deep side part and create your twists on the side with less hair.

4

Secure and hide

Once you’ve reached the bottom, secure with a clear elastic and pin it in place. Then, cover the end of the elastic with the hair that’s still out and flowing. If you need to, clip the hair over the end of your twist.

5

Spray for hold and texture

Use a dry texturising spray over the braid and your hair to give the final look hold and that effortless texture. If your lengths need some more oomph, scrunch the ends of your hair up.
