The bold at-home hair colours that'll amp-up your beauty game

Here’s what our members had to say about the DIY hair dye

The product

Dry, damaged locks are usually the part and parcel of at-home hair colouring. Especially when you’re switching to a bold new hue. But Garnier Olia Bold decided to do our hair a solid – its unique formula promises to deliver high-impact and long-lasting colour without sacrificing the quality of our hair.

The Garnier Olia Bold collection steps away from the 'traditional' hues, offering an exciting new range of intense coppers, violets, roses and reds for a bold and vivid look, without compromising the health of your hair. Unlike many other at-home hair colour formulas, Garnier Olia Bold contains no ammonia and instead uses oils to deliver colour into the hair. This innovative hair dye visibly improves hair quality and provides an anti-dullness and anti-dryness effect to enhance hair softness and shine.

Our panel of Review Crew® testers put this product to the test.

The panel

We sent Garnier Olia Bold to women aged between 25 and 40 who wanted to try a bold at-home hair colour without the risk of damage.

The lowdown

Here’s what the Review Crew® loved about Garnier Olia Bold:

How shiny and soft it made their hair feel: Many members commented on how the dye left their hair looking shiny and feeling softer and more nourished and manageable. In fact, many testers said their hair felt better than it did prior to colouring.

How vibrant the finished colour looked: Testers were impressed with the high-impact pigment, saying the dye delivered a bold and vibrant colour. Many reviewers also commented on how well it covered grey hairs.

How nice their hair smelled afterwards: Reviewers liked how the smell of the hair dye wasn’t overwhelming, and in fact, many found its scent quite pleasant. One reviewer said, “I was mostly surprised by the gentle floral scent of the dye, I remember hair dyes being so strong and chemically scented but this was far from that”.

The verdict

“There were a lot of pros to this hair dye: it was easy to use, mess-free, everything you need is included in the box, and I especially liked the aftercare treatment (smells yummy too!). The hair dye [was] pretty gentle on my scalp, and it was easy to wash out as well.”

“This product was really good in coverage and very easy to apply. This product didn’t smell as bad as the other ones normally do as it doesn’t have ammonia in it. I would definitely be using this product again. It looked nice and shiny once it was washed out.”

“I love that the product is ammonia-free, it smells so fruity and fresh and goes on like a dream. My scalp is very sensitive however it felt fine the whole time. The colour turned out beautiful and while it is bold, it is such a good change. My hair feels so healthy and soft too, which is a big bonus!”
