Uber’s Lost & Found index reveals the top beauty items Aussies left behind last year

Ever had the unfortunate luck of leaving something behind in an Uber?

Before you start feeling sorry for yourself, we’re here to inform you that it’s not an entirely unique experience (especially if what you lost was a tube of lipstick).

In fact, in the words of Uber ANZ’s Head of Rider Operations Hoa Nguyen, “Aussies have really outdone themselves when it comes to forgetfulness this year.”

“Uber’s annual Lost & Found Index is back for its seventh year and it's more bizarre than ever,” he went on to say in a statement released by Uber.

The index is a compounded account of the items riders have left behind in the ride share service, and subsequently reported as lost and found in the past year.

As one might expect, items such as clothing, phones, bags and wallets all made the cut as the most common finds in Ubers. But there were a few items riders left behind that were a little less run-of-the-mill by comparison.

Some of the more unusual items found in the past year include a Harry Styles concert ticket, an Olympic gold medal, a taxidermied cat, medication for someone’s pet rabbit and a girl's number on a piece of paper with the words “might be the love of my life” scratched next to it.

As entertaining as those finds may be, the list of top beauty items left behind in an Uber is far more suited to our tastes.

Weirdly specific finds such as a headband with pearls and the word “bride” emblazoned on it, and ‘my wife’s makeup’ made the list. An Australian cult classic, paw paw lip balm took out 7th place on the list, while 6th place went to the annoyingly broad category of ‘Tom Ford perfume’ (specifics please, Uber).

Evidently, the back of an Uber can double as a makeshift hair salon; items such as ‘Shu Uemura hair mist’, ‘keratin shampoo’, ‘hair extensions’, and ‘hair straighteners’ made up the 5th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd spots on the list respectively.

However, the beauty product most likely to be reported as lost and found for the past year was ‘Gucci lipstick’.

Considering a tube of the stuff retails for over $70, we’re shocked Aussies have been so comfortable playing hard and loose with the brand’s best-seller.

If you do decide to splurge on the GUCCI BEAUTY Rouge à Lèvres Satin Lipstick ($72 at Sephora) or GUCCI BEAUTY Rouge à Lèvres Mat Matte Lipstick ($72 at Sephora), do us a favour and guard it with your life.

If you did leave your Gucci lipstick in an Uber and are in the market for a new lippy, we recommend a classically chic pinky nude
