A must in our opinion

When it comes to skin care, we like to refer back to these ancient words of proverbial wisdom: “To not moisturise is to be a dumb-dumb”.
Okay, look we might have made that up, but we’re also a bit right.
Because the truth is, after piling on tons of makeup, SPF and washing it all away again with skin-stripping cleansers, your skin needs a little bit of TLC in order to perform at it’s best and that’s where a moisturiser comes in.
In terms of combating premature ageing, dehydrated skin, excessive oil and sebum production, and an unbalanced skin microbiome, there’s no better weapon than a reliable moisturiser.
To all those self-professed oily-skinned cynics, this ones for you.
Here are seven face moisturisers that are a must for any routine.
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 Balm
If you have dry skin and come winter you find that your entire face likes to shed off like that of a reptile, you need to have this B5-infused balm at the ready. Seriously, when we say this richly nourishing pick soothes and hydrates, we are not joking around. Plus, thanks to an ultra-forgiving formula that’s safe enough even for baby skin, you can use this to treat problems like chafed skin, dry patches, cracks, scratches, rough skin, superficial burns and even dermatitis.
Murad Clarifying Oil-Free Water Gel
If you cannot stand the feeling of traditional moisturiser formulas (oily-skinned folks we’re looking at you) then you need to sample this completely oil-free water gel pick from Murad. With an ingredient list that boasts super lightweight hydrators like hyaluronic acid as well as sebum-fighting finds like salicylic acid, it’s our top balancing and refreshing pick.
COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream
Made up of 92 per cent snail excretion (yum) this interesting find is hydrating and calming, helping to repair skin, minimise the appearance of scars and promote collagen production. Seems gimmicky, but it works – trust us.
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream
You can’t go past Kiehl’s classic Ultra Facial Cream for long-lasting hydration. The emollient formula practically melts into skin, while the addition of squalane and imperata cylindrica helps to replenish the complexion with some much-needed hydration as well as helping to improve the skin’s ability to retain moisture. Plus, glacial glycoprotein extract protects skin from particularly harsh weather conditions and balances the microbiome to boot.
Laneige Waterbank Hydro Gel
In terms of providing lightweight, deeply penetrating hydration, Laneige really can’t be beat. If you’re a fan of their range of hydrating overnight masks, you need to try this hydro-gel moisturiser offering. Antioxidant and potassium-rich green mineral water hydrates and protects against environmental damage, while saccharide isomerate mimics the skin’s natural hydrating process, optimising the moisturiser formula for long-lasting hydration. Humectant hyaluronic acid also helps to plump fine lines and wrinkles.
Clinique Moisture Surge 100 Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator
Utilising a combination of hyaluronic acid, aloe bio ferment and activated aloe water, this oil-free formula keeps skin hydrated for a whopping 100 hours post application, promoting the skin’s natural hydration auto-replenishment function. Plus, this cutesy pink pick also doubles as an express face mask; simply slather on a layer of the stuff for five minutes to enjoy the formula’s moisture-boosting properties.
CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion PM
Seriously, we don’t know if we’ve met a beauty editor who doesn’t love CeraVe’s Facial Moisturising Lotion. Personally we love the PM version for its versatility, though the AM version is a great pick to add to the kit too if you’d like an SPF inclusive hydrator. The hyaluronic acid and ceramide-infused formula absorbs into skin like a dream, hydrating skin and reinforcing the skin’s natural protective barrier. Plus, it wears well under makeup which is always a bonus.
