TikToker Brittany Xavier stans this clean beauty best-seller

Plus the other clean beauty buys she can’t go without

TikToker Brittany Xavier is a verified member of the sensitive skin club. fter giving birth to her daughter 13 years ago, the fashion blogger and influencer struggled with skin irritations caused by eating certain foods and using products with unnecessary ingredients.

As a result, she’s since been dedicated to keeping a relatively healthy lifestyle, which is a sentiment that she extends to her skin care routine. In a recent interview with The Cut, the 33-year-old walked the publication through her skin care routine step-by-step, which she’s done her best to keep as  clean as possible, with plenty of natural beauty buys.

“What I like about clean skin care is that it gives my skin a chance to be free of chemicals that could irritate it,” said Xavier.

She begins her routine with the  Farmacy Green Clean Makeup-Removing Cleansing Balm; “I use this on my dry skin, with my fingertips in a circular motion, as my first step in my night routine,” she said. “It has Moringa-seed extract, which is anti-inflammatory, and sunflower oil. It removes makeup but doesn’t make my skin feel tight afterward. It smells really refreshing too.”

She then rinses with warm water, before  following it up with a gentle probiotic cleanser, which she buffs into the skin with a cleansing brush.

“I double cleanse to make sure that I’m removing all my makeup each night, especially because I use an SPF daily with zinc that’s a bit stubborn to remove,” she explained.

For toner, Xavier rates cult brand Youth To The People’s Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner With Lactic Acid. It’s a great option for those with sensitive skin who still want to reap the radiance-enhancing benefits of an AHA.

“I started using lactic acid when I discovered it helps with resurfacing skin and helps decongest, AKA clear, your skin,” she said of the discovery. “It’s not the same feeling as what you would expect from a toner. It’s a little heavier, almost like a light leave-on treatment, but it tingles and feels great. My dark spot on my forehead has lightened since using it as well. I can’t imagine a routine without AHAs.”

When it comes to serums, she opts for a non-irritating retinol option or the much-loved Biossance Squalane + 10% Lactic Acid Resurfacing Night Serum.

“I switch between using this and the gentle retinol every other night. It’s a great mix of AHA that helps with cell turnover, for the same reason I love my toner. This night serum is completely vegan and includes squalene oil, which is antibacterial and has been safe for my sensitive skin.”

When it comes to moisturisers, Brittany forgoes heavier, occlusive formulas for a light layer of facial oil and SPF (if it’s the morning).

“I would always break out no matter which moisturiser I used, and after my skin cleanse, I realised that my skin didn’t need moisturiser at all. Facial oils have been great for added moisture without congestion… It’s [also] important to wear SPF daily — even on cloudy days when you would assume the sun can’t affect you.”
