I tried the new Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation

And it didn’t disappoint

BEAUTYcrew Content Producer / January 24 2022

After everything that’s already happened this year, we’ve been holding out for some good news that’ll finally be able to bring us back from the edge.

And while we didn’t think it would involve the release of a new skin care foundation from one of our favourite A-list makeup artists, that’s exactly what we got.

Yep, that’s right, Charlotte Tilbury has dropped a brand new foundation, infused with all manners of skin-loving ingredients.

From line-plumping hyaluronic acid to hydrating rose complex, and even a touch of nourishing coconut extract, Tilbury’s new Beautiful Skin Foundation is prepped and ready to smooth, hydrate and plump our skin to the nines.

The Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation also helps to minimise the appearance of pores, pigmentation and dark spots, while imparting skin with a youthful, radiant glow (umm, yes please!).

When and where can we get our mitts on the stuff?

As you might have guessed, Tilbury’s new base-perfecting foundation is initially being released at www.charlottetilbury.com/au for AU $65, but no doubt we’ll see the foundation rollout to local MECCA stores soon after (AKA the official Charlotte Tilbury retailer here in Australia).

Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation officially launched January 4th, which means your New Year’s resolution to become the hottest version of yourself just became all that much easier.

Thanks Charlotte!

The expert review

I’ve been chomping at the bit to get my hands on a tube of Tilbury’s newest addition to her stable of skin-perfecting foundation formulas. So you’ll imagine my excitement when a trio of me-hued shades of Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin ($65 at Charlotte Tilbury) landed on my doorstep.

While I’d love to hoard as much makeup as humanly possible (especially when it’s one of Charlotte Tilbury’s best-selling products), I decided against gatekeeping the heavenly experience of applying the foundation and shared the extra tubes with a few friends to get their opinion on the stuff as well (I settled on shade 4 neutral, while they sampled 5 neutral and 3 neutral; they loved it and the glow was unreal all around).

As for my review, I was pleasantly surprised by just how accurate the product name was. Seriously, if you could bottle and sell beautiful skin then this would be it. Let’s discuss…

The application

Initially I was a bit confused by the coverage of the foundation. I applied using my go-to Tarte the buffer™ brush ($48 at Sephora - waitlist only), swiping and buffing the product into my skin before stippling for extra foundation where needed.

The issue was the formula is so light and undetectable on the skin I truly couldn’t identify any differentiation in texture between my skin and the foundation. But after application it was evident that I’d inherited a healthy swathe of complexion-perfecting colour with very little effort at all.

The finish

When it comes to foundation, my biggest gripe is a formula that refuses to play ball with all the other products I inevitably end up packing on to my face, but there was no need for tantrums with this on my skin.

I used a variety of cream and powder formulas over the foundation and they all melted into each other seamlessly. It also added an incandescent glow to my complexion that made powder products look creamy and natural (my face is a no-cake makeup zone, thank you very much).

I also loved the way the formula perfectly straddles the realms of poreless and natural, leaving my skin looking flawless without looking so airbrushed that I was wearing an Instagram filter IRL.

The final verdict

As a fan of Charlotte Tilbury foundation, I thought I was going to love this and I wasn’t incorrect in making that assumption.

Tilbury’s managed to formulate a foundation that’s relatively fuss-free and makes your natural skin shine through. Because I don’t know about you, but I’m not investing all this time in good skin care to not show off my hard work.

However, if you’re struggling with acne-prone skin, then I’d be a little less inclined to recommend this one. The hydration and glow levels will no doubt create problems when trying to conceal any active acne or acne scars.

But if you’re like me and after a foundation that gives you deceptively ‘beautiful skin’, you really can’t go wrong with this skin care-infused option.
