No matter how much joy we get out of applying our makeup and playing around with new products and techniques, we’ll forever be on the hunt for shortcuts that speed up our routine and cut back on the number of products we need in our kit. Here, makeup maestro Napoleon Perdis shares his favourite everyday beauty hacks that are just what you need to cleverly up your makeup game.
#1 / Boost your smoky eye staying power
“After applying eyeliner, pat and press a dark, matte eyeshadow in a similar shade over the top, using a small angled brush. The eyeshadow will set the pencil and ensures a budge-proof result,” says Perdis.

#2 / Make your own highlighter
For the minimalists, “add a small amount of Napoleon Perdis Skin Renewal Serum to a loose eye dust in a neutral tone,” reveals Perdis. “Apply as a highlight to the top of the cheekbones for subtle luminosity.” Because fresh, dewy skin is always in.
#3 / Pep up tired eyes
Soothe and de-puff eyes with a DIY primer mask. “Simply place your primer in the fridge for a few hours and apply a 10-cent coin sized amount under the eye,” shares Perdis. For the best results, let the skin absorb the product and don’t rinse off.

#4 / Perfect a bold lipstick
To stop lipstick from bleeding, always line your lips last. “Begin by applying your favourite lipstick over the entire lip,” advises Perdis. “Next, line lips using a sharpened lip pencil.” This will create a crisp edge along the lip line and prevent smudging.

#5 / Streamline your makeup kit
“Double up your lipstick as a cream blush. Lipsticks make for the perfect creamy blush as they leave a subtle tint and are so easy to apply,” explains Perdis. For a natural finish, dab a small amount onto the apples of the cheek and blend with fingertips.
