How To Up Your Hair Game With Hair Accessories

Get the look in under three steps

Beauty Crew Beauty Editor / June 19 2019

There's no doubt about it, hair accessories have absolutely taken over our lives, and we're all for it. It seems that everywhere we look - from the runway to real life (yep, even Instagram) - there's an accessory, in the form of a hair clip, hair pin or bandeau, in sight. And we *get* it; there's no greater reason for their existence than the fact that they're practical and can dress up an outfit, much more so than jewellery. So, we decided to have some fun in the office using hair accessories from KELA, Louis Vuitton and Pixie's Bows, to create these three  hairstyles.

Look 1: Upgrade your loose waves with hair slides

This look using hair slides is perfect for those that just want to add a glittering touch to their loose waves. And while they may look like bobby pins, these hair slides from Natalie Anne x KELA have some added bling for good measure (because hello, who can say no to some sparkle?!). Here's how to get the look:

Step 1 / With a tail comb, create a deep side part.

Step 2 / Add a hair slide about an inch above your ear.

Step 3 / Randomly cascade additional hair slides down the side of your head and around your ear.

And you’re done!

Look 2: Dress up your topknot with a bandeau

We get it - there are days that you just can't be bothered washing your hair, so it's going to have to be a topknot kind of day. One way to seriously up the ante on an ordinary bun is with a bandeau, and we love the versatility of them; they look just as good as an accessory on your handbag or around your neck as they are wrapped around your topknot. For this updo, we've gone with something eye-catching from Louis Vuitton (you could also try a scarf scrunchie for an equally effortless look). Here's how to get the look:

Step 1 / Wrap your hair around itself to create a topknot, and secure with a hair tie. (Psst... if you have straight hair, plait your hair first then create your topknot (this prevents fly-aways from escaping your bun!).

Step 2 / Wrap a bandeau around your topknot to cover the hair tie.

Step 3 / When you have about 10cm of bandeau left, tie it in a knot to secure it in place.

Too easy!

Look 3: Pretty up your ponytail with hair pins

Instead of using a ribbon this season, try decorating your ponytail with some hair pins. We like these ones from Pixie's Bows for their stiff structure so they actually stay put, rather than hang loose like a ribbon. They also stay put in your hair and are ideal to use for anyone who wants something that's suitable for day to night wear. Here's how to get the look:

Step 1 / Pull your hair back into a tight low ponytail at the nape of your neck.

Step 2 / Place the hair pins straight through the top of your ponytail to cover up the hair tie.

And that’s how you can up your hair game with accessories!

It’s no secret that we’re truly obsessed with hair accessories. Here are the hair accessories we couldn’t get enough of from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2019.
