Kendall Jenner’s Met Gala look featured this $15 supermarket mascara

And a side of controversy

The Met Gala red carpet is all about glitz and glamour, with a ‘more is more’ approach to fashion and beauty. So we’re always pleasantly surprised to see our favourite drugstore makeup making an appearance.

One of the best Met Gala beauty looks of 2023? Kendall Jenner. And it turns out her entire look was created using none other than some cult favourite products from L’Oréal Paris.

Kendall Jenner’s Met Gala makeup

“We were inspired by ‘70s mod makeup with an emphasis on the eyes: bold lashes to compliment the upper and lower lash lines with a classic winged liner,” Jenner’s makeup artist Mary Phillips shared in an Instagram post.

The product responsible for creating those dreamy, fluttery lashes? L’Oréal Paris’ Telescopic Lift Mascara (currently on sale for $15.99 at Big W).

And yes, that is the same mascara responsible for the now infamous ‘lashgate’ drama of January 2023, involving beauty creator Mikayla Nogueira, a pair of Ardell Wispies and Jeffree Star making his TikTok debut. It still feels like a fever dream tbh…

But if you had doubts about the mascara’s ability to lift and enhance your lashes, Jenner’s Met Gala look will put your mind at ease. We think falsies may have been involved, but the definition from said mascara is clearly visible.

"I started off by using a neutral brown eyeshadow from L’Oréal Paris La Palette Nude (not available in Australia) in the crease and under the eye," Phillips shared in a press release. "Under the eye, I used a darker chocolate shade on the outer corners and flicked it out. Then the middle of the two wings, I used the lightest shade in the palette to emphasise the wings and elongate the eye."

Phillips also added a swipe of the Infallible Grip Precision Felt Waterproof Liner ($21.99 at Chemist Warehouse) to create the perfect cat eye look.

As for the rest of Jenner’s makeup, Phillips started with her signature underpainting technique using the Infallible Full Wear Concealer ($26.99 at Chemist Warehouse) under the eyes and the Age Perfect 4-in-1 Tinted Balm (not available in Australia) to contour and add definition. Phillips then combined two shades of the Infallible 24 Hour Fresh Wear Foundation (currently on sale for $18.50 at Big W) and finished with a light layer of powder for a flawless base.

To add more colour and dimension, Phillips went in with the Infallible Fresh Wear Soft Matte Bronzer in ‘Medium’ (not available in Australia). Jenner’s rosy cheeks were all thanks to the True Match Super Blendable Blush in Tender Rose, finished with the TikTok viral True Match Lumi Glotion Natural Glow Enhancer in ‘Light’ for a subtle highlight (both products are not available in Australia).

Sticking to the barely-there nude tones, Phillips finished off the look with the Color Riche Matte Lip Liner in ‘Au Naturale’ and the Color Riche Intense Volume Matte lipstick in ‘Le Nude Admirable’ (both products are not available in Australia). And voila, the perfect Met Gala look.

But let’s not forget all the skin prep that goes into red carpet beauty, including the Cryo Contour Facial that your favourite celebs are obsessed with…
