When it comes to welcoming a new addition to our beauty kits, we like to know we’re spending our money wisely – regardless of the price tag attached. And while we can read all the reviews in existence on the Internet, there’s something we love about an expert-recommended product – they have, after all, likely used and tested almost every beauty product out there, from the luxest of luxe to the most budget of buys, so if they’re carrying something in their kit, you know it must be good. And while we’d love to know the expensive products worth splashing out on, what we really want to know about are the good-quality cheapies. Here, Australian hairstylist and makeup artist, and Afterpay ambassador, Max May reveals his favourite budget hair and makeup products and why he rates them.
Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayons
“I love a crayon-style lip colour for summer…It’s all about that carefree look with high impact. These Colour Boost Crayons are on my list with four awesome shades to suit most skin types and lip tones – and [they] look a treat on the cheeks, perfect for that youthful hint of pink!”
Kristin Ess Soft Shine Beach Spray
“[Kristin Ess Soft Shine Beach Spray] creates texture and enhances the natural waves (that you probably didn't know you had), minus the frizz that a salt spray gives you. Think Oribe Après Spray but half the price!”
Revolution Cheek Kit
“Of the few in the range, ‘Make It Count’ is my quad colour of choice. It’s a four-pan palette of highlighters in yellow gold, silver, white gold and a beautiful peachy-pink to brighten up the skin. They’ve got high-impact shine that is super soft on the skin to blend, plus, it lasts a treat. Think Anastasia Beverly Hills, but a quarter of the price!”
Glam by Manicare Foundation Brush
“The most-used brush in my kit is this little BEAUT, which buffs, builds and blends like a dream. I even have a second one to apply cream blush, bronzer and highlighters! Think the shu uemura Foundation Brush minus the price point, plus it’s cruelty-free!”
Well, that sounds like a trip to Priceline to us, no? And for all those other luxe buys you’ve been lusting after, May says there’s always Afterpay.
