'Naked disco nails' have arrived to liven up nude manicures

And we have Selena Gomez to thank

Nude nails don't generally scream exciting. They're literally designed to look like you're wearing nothing. And they're chic, don't get us wrong, but we always find ourselves wanting a little more.

If only there were a nail trend that didn't rely on crazy colours or busy prints but still made a statement... Oh wait, there is. And it's already been approved by the A-List.

What is the 'naked disco' nail trend?

A term coined by Allure, the trend ties together the statement and subtle manicure categories, allowing neutral tones and glitzy designs to peacefully (and stunningly) coexist. Take Selena Gomez's glitter-topped nude nails, for instance. A wash of shimmery taupe polish would be pretty on its own, but add a layer of sparkle and you're really talking.

Celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik broke down how he created the look via his Instagram: "i applied 2 thin coats of #ApresGelColour in #ForgottenFilmNext I added a coat of non-wipe glossy gel #TopCoat and statically placed a fine glitter and @swarovski pixie dust to give a bit of sparkle and dimension ✨🧚‍♀️," he wrote.

While we may not be able to get our hands on (or covered in) Swarovski crystals per se, we will be adding a few glitzy polishes to cart to replicate Gomez's glittery look.

How to wear the 'naked disco' nail trend

Gomez isn't the only celeb to have sampled the look, either. Camila Cabello, Jennifer Lopez and Margot Robbie have all tried a take on the trend. They all did things a little differently, too, proving just how versatile it is!

Cabello went for sparkly silver stripes down the centre of each nail, Lopez added glistening chrome French tips, and Robbie went with an all-over sheer pearlescent polish. Glitzy but still subtle.

How to create your own 'naked disco' manicure

On top of a nail art tool or toothpick if you want to try stripes or tips, all you really need to get into the 'naked disco' game is a selection of nude, pearlescent, glittery and shimmery polish shades, depending on the design you're aiming for. Here are a few of our faves...
