Natural ingredients aren’t just about the feel-good factor – they really do work. We spoke to Lee Holmes, holistic nutritionist, wellbeing expert and Natural Instinct ambassador for her top picks for natural ingredients our skin will love.
Why should we use natural ingredients?
“As we become increasingly aware of the ingredient lists of foods, it’s a natural progressions to look at skin care ingredients,” says Holmes. “With 60 to 90 per cent of the ingredients in your skin care absorbed into the bloodstream, it’s good to know what’s going on and in your body!” Here are her top picks for natural ingredients you need in your skin care routine:
“With 50 times more vitamin C than an orange, this is known for its anti-ageing properties,” Holmes says. “It helps with skin elasticity, firming, plumping and brightening.”
Watermelon seed oil
With nurturing properties and a light texture, it’s exceptional for many skin types, including sensitive and oily skin. “It helps remove excess oil, is highly moisturising and has anti-ageing benefits,” explains Holmes.
Coffee seed oil
Sourced from the fresh, unroasted coffee bean, this oil contains high levels of phytosterols (a compound found in plants that helps to hydrate skin). “It reduces puffiness, promotes firmer-looking skin and is rich in antioxidants,” Holmes says. Also known as coffee bean extract, it’s the perfect ingredient for anyone seeking anti-ageing benefits or a moisturiser for nourishing more sensitive skin types.
Loved by supermodel Miranda Kerr, noni extract brightens and clarifies skin. It also helps reduce inflammation and acne, as well as boost skin’s moisture retention and cellular regeneration.
Echinacea purpurea extract
“You might have taken echinacea to fight colds, however it’s also a superpower ingredient in beauty, which boosts skin hydration and healing,” Holmes reveals.
