Nikkie Tutorials shares her top tips for creating a smoky eye

And talks to us exclusively about her new Too Faced palette

Beauty Crew Beauty Writer / May 25 2017

Nikkie Tutorials has become one of YouTube’s most popular vloggers of late with a channel that boasts over five million subscribers. A lot of that success can be attributed to her incredible tutorials and ‘The Power of Makeup’ video she created last year that worked to shut down makeup shaming and embrace the transformative power of cosmetics (she's also the one responsible for this primer hack Kylie Jenner swears by, and our members love).

Over a year has passed since Nikkie’s video went viral and still the empowering messages within it continue to ring true. So much so that cult makeup brand Too Faced announced earlier this year that they have collaborated with the beauty vlogger on a limited edition makeup line, aptly called The Power of Makeip collection, which is now finally available.

To celebrate the launch of her Too Faced range, we spoke to Nikkie to get the low down on how to create the perfect smoky eye.

#1 / Make sure to blend

Nikkie stressed that blending is the most important technique in creating the perfect smoky eye. "Immaculate blending will really make those heads turn! Start off with a transition shade on a larger blending brush, and work your way down to more concentrated shadows and denser packed brushes," she said.

#2 / Don't rush

It's not hard to get carried away when creating a smoky eye so Nikkie says to make sure you "take your time and mind your pressure. The higher you go up in your crease the less pressure you apply on your brush."

#3 / Mix with colour

It's easy to stick to the traditional grey, black and brown shades when creating a smoky eye but Nikkie says experimenting with different colour combinations can really elevate your look. On the palette she's created with Too Faced, she says "The sky is the limit. You can go natural, mega glam or low-key slay. One of my favorites is a real smoky eye using Mystic Hour (deep green), Makeup and Chill (rich brown) and Wanted (charcoal)."
