From crimped and textured to slick and smooth, ponytails are a hairstyle that we’re constantly coveting. The reason we’re always pulling our hair back into a high or low ponytail goes beyond its ability to keep strands away from our face - it’s because they can make us look polished without being too hard to style ourselves. Here are our favourite ponytail hairstyles from 2017 so far.
A high ponytail can do no wrong, even on the red carpet. Blake Lively’s signature ponytail most likely involves hair extensions matched to her hair colour for added texture and length, but any mid to long hair length than achieve a similar look.
The Duchess of Cambridge proves that a ponytail can be practical and pretty in one. Get this hairstyle by pulling your lengths back loosely into a low ponytail, then wrap a small piece of hair around the elastic band to hide it. Volume at the back of the head is key.
For those with wavy or curly hair, copy Halle Berry by simply pulling your hair back into a low ponytail that starts from the nape of your neck. Opt for a hair tie in a similar shade to your hair colour for a seamless effect.
One way to show off larger earrings is with a low ponytail, as seen on Nicole Kidman. To conceal a larger forehead, take a small section from each side of your face and loosely curl it to mimic a fringe.
We’re completely mesmerised by this hairstyle worn by Britt Robertson. The combination of elegant French twists styled into a cool-girl inspired mohawk, and finished with a shine serum is stunning.
Looking for a more glamorous take on the ponytail? Try this hairstyle as seen on Megyn Kelly at the Met Gala by adding some jewelled clips beside your hair tie for an eye-grabbing detail.
Another way to add texture to your ponytail is to split it in two, twist each section individually, then wrap the two together like Zoe Saldana has for her red carpet appearance.
