Didn't love it

I hadn't heard of the brand but when i told my friends i had received it they said they heard great things so i was excited to try! I have a lot of hair but it's thin and my scalp is prone to build up towards the end of the week/when it's due to be washed. Firstly when i opened the packet there were very few instructions and with all the different languages on the packaging, i found it difficult to find the instructions. I ended up going onto their website for the instructions for the leave-in treatment as it didn't say whether to put it on wet/damp/dry hair. It also recommends that you use the products daily which i think is absurd (i'm not washing my hair every day!). The scent of the shampoo and conditioner is peppermint which i usually don't mind but the conditioner was so strong it was "burning" my nostrils. The leave in treatment is applied to the scalp but it ended up making the roots of my hair crunchy like i had used moose. I also found the product really dried my hair out and didn't feel soft of smooth after use. I stopped using the product after a few uses because i really didn't enjoy it or how it made my hair feel so can't talk to whether it helped with increasing volume in thin hair.

Body and volume + minty freshness!

Nioxin 3D Trial Kit System 2 contains 150ml shampoo and 150ml conditioner and a 50ml foam leave-in treatment. My hair needs change with the seasons so I was concerned this trio was going to be too drying for my hair at this time of the year but thankfully it wasn't. The shampoo wasn't drying at all and by following up with the conditioner and treatment I didn't need to use any other moisturising products to untangle my locks. I really enjoyed the invigorating peppermint scent because it was a nice pick-me-up on a winters morning. It had a cooling/ refreshing effect that'll soothed my scalp. My wavy hair was full of shine and bounce so it did look thicker but I would like to use this system for 6 months to see where it takes me before I give it 5 stars.

3 step, salon quality hair care routine

This is a 3 step system. Shampoo, conditioner and treatment. As I hadn't heard of this brand before, I wasn't sure how this was going to go. The shampoo is peppermint scented, scalp tingling, and lathers really well. This is a cleansing shampoo, which helps reduce the build up and impurities on the scalp. The peppermint and tingling sensation together help stimulate the scalp and encourage hair growth. The conditioner is peppermint scented as well, but does not have the tingling effect. This is highly nourishing and thickens the hair at the roots. The treatment is handy as you don't need to do this step in the shower. It is more of a 'leave in conditioner', so you do this step on damp hair, and can be done before styling. It has a combination of peppermint and a clean smell, but the peppermint isn't as strong scented as the shampoo and conditioner. The bottle has a pump head and comes out a foam. You will need a few pumps to ensure you have covered your hair well. This helps protect your hair from the UV rays, as well as locking the moisture into the hair folicule to keep it looking fuller for longer. Unfortunately there aren't any instructions on the box, only on the pull up labels on the bottles - which aren't convenient while in the shower. The shampoo is straight forward to use so I didn't have to read the instructions. The conditioner was to leave on 1-3 mins, so if you didn't read that, you might've left it on for too long. The only one I would have liked more directions on was the treatment. It didn't say how many pumps to use, only to apply 'evenly'. It also doesn't direct as to how often you are supposed to use these, so me washing my hair once a week might not have been enough for this to work properly. Even after a few washes, I'm still not sure if these are the products for me. The shampoo seemed to make my hair feel dry, but this could be because it is a 'cleansing shampoo'. I think I have a sensitive scalp, so a cleanser might be too much. I also don't usually put conditioner on my scalp, so my hair ended up becoming oily super fast between washes. I'm not sure if I could say my hair looked thicker after use, but it definately look volumised/fluffy and felt bouncier. I have thick hair, so I might not have been able to tell if it became thicker/fuller as easily as someone with thinner hair. There was also a huge reduction in frizz, which was fantastic as I have always struggled with this. These products also didn't weigh my hair down or make it feel heavy.

Had my hairdresser's seal of approval

Beauty Crew kindly sent me this set to try and I had no idea what to expect, as I had never heard of this brand. As well as that I don’t have thinning hair, although I do have one area under my fringe where the hairline is receding a bit. However, I can always benefit from thicker, fuller hair and the Nioxin system certainly delivers on that front. The shampoo has a gel appearance and fresh peppermint scent. I was wary at first – I love peppermint but I had previously tried a shampoo with peppermint that was not nearly cleansing enough for my hair, and left it quite oily. Thankfully Nioxin did NOT have that in common. My hair stayed clean, full and bouncy for a few days, just like my usual go-to shampoo, and I have actually been using it ever since. The cleanser is meant to clear the hair of oil and impurities and leave it stronger and fuller, while the conditioner, with the same peppermint scent, moisturizes and thickens the hair whilst nourishing the scalp. This was something I am not used to – having an oily scalp I usually confine conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends. So I was a bit nervous about applying it to my scalp. My hair did feel clean and fuller, but after 2 days my scalp felt a bit itchy and slightly oily. Not sure if this is a reaction to a new product, or will continue. The treatment is the third step that really focuses on thickening hair apparently – a few pumps after washing and conditioning hair, and the hair strands are coated and thickened, as well as protected from UV rays – so the hair looks fuller because it is treated right from the roots. I love the fact that the treatment is applied after washing, and is no-rinse – I am not a fan of products that have you waiting around with a treatment and then having to jump back in the shower. Who has the time for this these days? Even though I had never heard of Nioxin my hairdressers had, and actually gave it their seal of approval – considering it is not one of the products they stock, that is quite a recommendation! Like the packaging said, they told me Nioxin is great for thickening hair and making it fuller right from the scalp. After a few weeks I have been very happy with the results from this hair trio – I can’t actually measure my hair’s diameter but it does feel thicker and bouncier, without feeling dry on the ends – tick, and double tick. However, it may not suit people with oily roots to condition the scalp – after a few uses I decided to skip that step. The only criticism I would make is the minimal and virtually hidden instructions. While I don’t need to be told how to use shampoo, it took me a while to find leave-in information for the conditioner – I finally saw the arrow telling you to peel back the label, and there it was. Leave-in times can vary wildly so this is important. There was also limited information for the treatment – I had no idea how many pumps to use, only to do it “evenly” so I really had to guess how much. For this reason I gave the pack 4 stars.
