Dermalogica Barrier Repair

This is my holy grail beauty item especially working in an office with artificial heating and cooling and travelling. I get rather dry skin. I love this product as a little bit goes a long way and in winter and when I fly my cheeks get very tight and sore. I’m terrible when I fly as I totally hate aeroplane toilets so I won’t hydrate until I get to the destination. The smaller tube is great for taking travelling as it fits nicely in your make up case it comes in an easy to squeezey white tube with a long nozzle so you don’t waste it. A clear pleasant scented cream that looks almost like hair gel but is a lotion. It glides on smooth and you can feel in creating a hydrating barrier. It automatically takes my tired and dry skin to soft and smooth again. A little bit goes a long way and it’s worth paying a little bit extra for.

I have used and liked many products from Dermalogica.  This is a difficult one. Whether I like it or not depends on how I look at it. This product is practically silicone. When my skin was completely sensitized by the use of problematic product, this barrier repair was really the ONLY thing I can put on my skin without irritation. It does not heal the skin in itself, but it does not contain irritants to further irritate the skin. It is basically silicon which makes the skin feel less tight and less irritated. However, it is anhydrous (i.e. no water), so it does not "moisturise" or "hydrate" the skin either. Technically it works by forming a film to prevent moisture lost, but if that area of skin was pretty dehydrated to start off with, it will not add any hydration to that area. However, once my skin got better (after 2 days or so), I simply could not use this because it was drying my skin out. As I said it is just silicone so I had to quickly find another gentle moisturiser to replace this. I would give this product 5 stars as an anti-irritant for use on heavily sensitized skin, but 1 star as a moisturiser.

This product is a god send when you’ve been on a long haul flight. I find my skin becomes dry and when I’m flying it helps to keep my skin from drying out and left my skin so soft. It’s great as it’s nice and small and can be placed in your carry on luggage. Well worth the investment.

Have started using this product for 8wks and noticed a rapid reduction in redness on my face. This product is silky smooth and very light weight. A whole tube has still lasted 8wks and I use it twice a day. This product works surprisingly well under my active moist and also the spf 50 barrier moisturiser - there is no strong smell either. The product just glides over and no oily feeling. Makeup also applies well over. Significant reduction in my redness and will continue to use as my everyday face treatment.
