Could a reverse-washing system be the secret to more voluminous hair?

Our Review Crew® puts it to the test

The product

Volume is one of the most sought-after features of a killer hair look, and while there are plenty of prep and styling products that can help achieve it, TRESemmé may have just changed the game with its new reverse wash system, Beauty-Full Volume. Featuring a Pre-Wash Conditioner, a Shampoo and a Blow Dry Créme, this innovative collection throws everything you know about washing your hair on its head – all in the pursuit of volume. By using the conditioner first to hydrate and smooth the hair, the shampoo then washes away excess weight and oil, leaving hair bouncy and soft. The blow dry crème then locks in the volume, leaving you with soft, voluminous hair.

Our panel of Review Crew® testers put the entire range – and the reverse washing system – to the test.

The panel

Beauty Crew sent TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Pre-Wash Conditioner, Volume Shampoo and Volume Blow-dry Crème to a panel of women aged between 21 and 35, who were seeking increased volume in their hair.

The lowdown

Here’s what the Review Crew® loved about the Beauty-Full Volume Collection:

How pleasantly surprising the reverse-wash system was: Most members were skeptical about the reverse-wash system as it was the opposite of what they were used to, however many people commented on how they were pleasantly surprised by the results and would continue to use this system in the future.

How hair felt softer and lighter: Members shared that although they thought the shampoo would ‘wash away’ the nourishing effects of the conditioner, it surprisingly left hair feeling softer and lighter.

How hair looked and felt more voluminous: While testers with thick or frizzy hair didn’t notice as much of an increase in volume, those with fine and flat hair noticed a significant difference, saying that the three-step system gave hair volume from the roots without weighing it down.

Good to know: Some testers mentioned to use only a nail-sized amount of the Blow-Dry Crème, as too much could leave hair feeling a bit heavy and oily.

The verdict

“It felt strange to be using shampoo after conditioner, but it somehow worked out really well. I felt the consistency and the foam from the shampoo removed the slickness of my conditioner, and left my hair feeling softer and lighter once it was dry. It definitely gave my hair much needed volume and movement, without weighing it down.”
“I don’t usually shampoo after my conditioner and I did find it a little odd…but I actually was very surprised at how soft and smooth it left my hair feeling.”
“I don’t usually use a specific blow-dry cream, but after using this I think I will. Even without the shampoo and conditioner, this made my hair seem more voluminous and lush. You only need a small dollop and it spreads through the hair easily.”
