What you need to know about posh bronzing

It’s the new makeup trend to try

Beauty Crew Beauty Editor / May 25 2017

Move over sun-striping, there’s a new technique in town. Nicknamed ‘posh bronzing’ by MAC Senior Makeup Artist, Nicole Thompson, this method of applying bronzer to select areas of your face is meant to exude opulence.

Thompson spoke exclusively with us about the trend backstage at the Carla Zampatti Spring 2017 show: “the girls needed to look super expensive and beautiful, so rather than just sweeping bronzer across the nose for a ‘been down to the beach’ look, we’ve applied it over the eyes as well.”

Best of all, you may not need to expand your makeup arsenal to try this trend. “We used bronze creams and shimmers, and a palette called MAC Pro Lip Palette in Necessary Nudes,” explains Thompson. “It’s a nod to the eighties where the colour goes from the eyes and is taken out to the cheeks, rather than bronzing everywhere. Or, try Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Lip Palette

This deliberate placement of colour, rather than an application all over the face, makes your entire complexion look more elegant, done and polished.

We’re totally on board with using makeup in unconventional ways, and Thompson seems to agree. “We used MAC Pro Longwear Blush in Eternal Sun (we also recommend Revlon Glow Powder Blush) - a perfect caramel bronze product - all over the eyes and finished the eye area off with lipstick to give a nice creamy finish. We also did the same on the cheeks and lips.”

If you’re looking to make your eyes pop even more, Thompson suggests going in with a bronzy shade. “A warm taupe like MAC Eye Shadow in Arena (or NYX Hot Singles Eyeshadow in Gumdrop) or has a nice shine to it, and can be dusted over the entire look on top of the bronzer you’ve applied. This technique ties it all together, making your overall makeup more polished and less patchy.”
