A beauty editor's life seems oh-so-glamorous; you’re probably picturing Sex and the City-esque swanning about, Bold Type-ing events and a recreation of all the 2000s rom-coms where the leading lady is doused in PR gifts. And while parts of that are true (lucky!), it’s certainly not the main reason we look to these editors. Writing day-in-day-out about all things beauty gives you a whole new perspective on the industry, ingredients and products.
So, finding out what their must-have going out beauty products are is a godsend. No more guessing a signature scent, or wondering about a trademark eye look. The BEAUTYcrew editorial team (AKA us, hi!) are here to teach you all our beauty secrets and the products we’re reaching for as we head out.
“When it comes to glam, I like to do as little as possible. So I’ve adopted a “high maintenance to be low maintenance” routine that involves tan-touring, BIAB nails and a brow lamination and tint. My go-tos for perfect at-home brows? The Ardell Brow Tint ($17.79 at Adore Beauty) and Brow Lamination Kit ($33.99 at Chemist Warehouse). The brow tint is so easy to use and has the most flattering finish, leaving my brows looking full and fluffy for two weeks. And the lamination kit is my holy grail. I often apply it as I’m doing my base makeup (I’m a last minute kind of girl) and by the time I’m finished, my arches look fluffy and flawless, and I get so many compliments on my brows!” - Georgia Nelson, Beauty & Social Editor
“Unfortunately I suffer from dry skin almost all year round, so it’s a struggle to find a good body lotion that can do the job. It can make it a pain getting ready for a night out, especially if I want to fake tan and I fake tan A LOT. However, Bio-Oil Body Lotion ($17.21 at Priceline) leaves my skin feeling so smooth and hydrated, making sure I don’t get itchy or uncomfortable throughout the night and can guarantee my fake tan will last for at least a week!” - Scarlett Barnes, Content Producer
“If you’re a lazy nail gal like I am, you’d be pretty accustomed to sporting bare nails on the regular. For times when I want a quick pick-me-up, however, I’m particularly partial to Sally aHansen’s Hard as Nails Strengthener in ‘Natural’ ($10.95 at Chemist Warehouse). Think of this cult-classic strengthener as a lipgloss for the nails. The light pink tint gives your fingertips a healthy glow while the thick, glossy formula protects nails against the wear and tear of daily activities.” - Olga Scorer, Content Producer
“I used to put a lot of effort into creating dramatic eye looks before going out, but these days I like to add colour to my makeup with a vibrant pop of liquid or cream blush. The Max Factor Miracle Pure Infused Cream Blush ($28.95 at Priceline) is creamy and hydrating and diffuses into a really beautiful sheer flush of rosy-pink when applied. It’s a quick and easy way to instil a bit of life back into my makeup after perfecting my complexion, manicuring and styling my arches and accentuating my eyes with a subtle lick of mascara.” — Briar Clark, Beauty Editor
“As someone who’s mediocre at makeup, I like to focus on fragrance as my statement-maker instead. To keep my scent succinct, I stock my skin care shelf with body products powered by the same notes as my preferred perfume. And as a gourmand girl through and through, I can never go past the vanilla, amber and musk mix of the AERIN Tangier Vanille Body Cream ($110 at David Jones), and a deal-sealing spritz of the AERIN Tangier Vanille Eau De Parfum ($220 at David Jones).” - Delaney Loane, Editor
“As a fair girl, my lashes are, well… lacking. I use all the serums, I tint them and I do my best to find the most dramatising mascaras out there. But still I wish for longer, luscious lashes. And boy do I want lash extensions on the reg, but the cost! So, my go-to (affordable) lash hack? The incredibly light and fluttery Eylure 3/4 Length in ‘No. 002 Lashes’ ($12.49 at Priceline). They give me that everyday ‘wow’ factor that my eyes so desperately need.” - Emma Allcock, Content Assistant
