The mask you wish you’d known about at the start of summer

Butt Sheet Masks Summer Beauty Essential - Alessandra Ambrosio

Spotted backstage at New York Fashion Week

Beauty Crew Contributing Editor / February 10 2019

We show A LOT of skin in summer. And while our sunscreen and self-tan usage goes up, there’s one step we’ve been missing out on.

But don’t worry, New York Fashion Week has got our back. Or rather, our butts covered.

The models backstage at swimsuit and athletic-wear brand Chromat’s show didn’t just get their faces dolled up, their behinds got in on the action, too.

Before taking to the runway, models were treated to a 10-minute butt mask session to ensure their bottoms looked plump and radiant. Yes, butt masks are a real thing.

In fact, we gave you a heads up about them last year, back when we heard Madonna was a convert. She loves a clay one – you should try it, especially if you have butt acne.

But rather than slathering a face mask onto the models’ backsides at NYFW, actual butt sheet masks were used.

The butt mask of choice backstage at Chromat was the Bawdy Butt Masks, which you can pick up for about $12.50 online from Free People. Bawdy Beauty is a fairly new American beauty brand that currently only sells these butt masks, which come in four different formulas: ‘Shake It’ is firming and illuminating, ‘Bite It’ is hydrating and toning, ‘Squeeze It’ is brightening and rejuvenating, and ‘Slap It’ is retexturising and detoxifying.

Bawdy Butt Mask - Shake It

Inside each packet you’ll get two sheet masks – one for each cheek. You just leave it on for 10 minutes, peel it off and massage any excess serum into your buttocks. The same as you would a regular sheet mask.

Perfect for giving your derriere a smooth and glowing look, we reckon butt sheet masks are just the pre-beach treat we all need this summer.

Psst, did you know there are sheet masks for pregnant bellies, too? Lily Aldridge is a big fan.
