TikTok’s favourite hair tool is the key to Camila Dunne’s signature soft blowout

Daisy Jones & The Six's Hair Department Head spills her '70s styling secrets

Characters don't get much more beloved than Camila Dunne in Daisy Jones & The Six. Like, even if a tiny (naughty) part of you was rooting for Billy and Daisy, you still knew damn well that Camila Dunne was in a league of her own.

And speaking of things in a league of their own, let’s talk about her hair. Dunne's silky-smooth ‘70s blow-dry is as impressive as her emotional intelligence (and damn, is that through the roof).

If you’re keen to copy her signature style, you’re in luck; BEAUTYcrew spoke to Daisy Jones & The Six’s Hair Department Head MaryAnn Hennings to learn exactly how she created it on-set…

The inspiration behind Camila Dunne’s hair

“My inspiration for for Camila [was] Ali Mac Graw: naturally and effortlessly beautiful,” Hennings shares, noting that the difference between Daisy Jones and Camila Dunne was even evident in their hair. “Camila was the polar opposite of Daisy,” notes Hennings. “I wanted her look to be a major contrast from Daisy’s. [Camila’s look needed to be] as sweet and soft as her character.”

‘Naturally polished’ is definitely Camila’s overall vibe, but Hennings upped the glam-factor as the show (and the band’s fame) progressed. “As the band got more successful, I then took her up a level [while still] keeping the sweet fashionable look iconic with the ‘70s," she confirms.

How to get Camila Morrone’s ‘Camila Dunne’ hair

“Camila’s look always started with the OUAI Heat Protection Spray ($43 at Sephora) and OUAI Volume Spray ($40 at Sephora),” Hennings explains, proving the importance of prep, especially for gravity-defying ‘70s styles.

Time for tools! “For Camila’s basic style, it would be a simple blowout for volume," shares Hennings. "Then we’d go over it with the Dyson AirWrap Multi-Styler ($719 at Dyson) [using the] anti-frizz attachment. For her other natural wave look, the Dyson [Corrale] Straightener ($599 at Harvey Norman) was used to make a subtle S shaped wave.”

Well, if we weren't beyond tempted to splash cash on an AirWrap before, Dunne's hair has certainly sealed the deal...
