Camila Morrone wore this $235 lipstick on the Critics Choice Awards red carpet

No, that's not a typo...

During awards season we love playing spot the bargain beauty buy as we troll through the Instagram pages of celebrity hair and makeup artists.

But when we decided to take a gander at Mary Phillips feed to find out which makeup products she'd used to create Camila Morrone's neutral glam look for the Critics Choice Awards we had the wind knocked out of us.

Like fellow celebrity makeup artists Pati Dubroff and Nina Park, Phillips has been working closely with Chanel this awards season.

The makeup pro has been busy beating the famous faces of Dua Lipa, JLo and the aforementioned Camila Morrone using exclusively Chanel makeup products and her signature underpainting technique

So we think it's safe to say, with a Chanel exclusive makeup kit being put to use, Morrone's neutral makeup look for the Critics Choice Awards was less than cheap.

However, what we weren't expecting, was for her lipstick to retail for $235.

Phillips graciously shared every single Chanel product she used on Morrone, including the mother of pearl-infused 31 Le Rouge Satin Lipstick in the shade 'Rouge Beige' ($235 at Chanel). Although the mere mention of a $235 lipstick made us gasp, we have to admit we don't think Morrone's makeup look would be as effortlessly sultry without the exxy lip colour. The subtle, pout-enhancing lip colour was undeniably the crowning jewel of it all.

The refillable lip colour is from Chanel's newest satin-finish lipstick range; 31 Le Rouge Satin Lipstick. The range's singular shades are intended to be investment pieces that become mainstays in one's makeup collection. So although you may have to fork out $235 for the initial purchase of the lip colour and bullet, 31 Le Rouge Satin Lipstick refills ($105 at Chanel) are less than half the price by comparison.

Phillips polished off Morrone's luxe pout with the Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres Longwear Lip Pencil in the shade '162 Nude Brun' ($55 at Chanel), which is rumoured to be one of Chanel legacy Lily Rose-Depp's favourite lip liners. However, we think it wouldn't be too difficult to find a convincing dupe of this one.

On the hunt for a nude lipstick just as lush as Morrone's, but don't want to spend $235 to get it? This is Margot Robbie’s MUA’s tip for finding the perfect nude lippie.
