But we’re ditching the confusion as far as our haircare is concerned because the Garnier Fructis Hair Food Shampoo Bar - Watermelon is completely plastic-free and still provides the equivalent of 500mL of shampoo. Happy hair washing, folks.

If it sounds too simple, that’s because it is.

This volumising shampoo bar is housed in plastic-free, 100 per cent FSC recyclable cardboard packaging, formulated with 97 per cent natural ingredients, and is free from silicones and artificial colourants.

Here’s what our panel of Review Crew® testers had to say about this vegan-friendly, cruelty-free hair hero.

The panel

Beauty Crew sent Garnier Fructis Hair Food Shampoo Bar - Watermelon to a panel of women aged 18 to 35 with fine hair who want more volume.

The lowdown

Here’s what the Review Crew® loved about the Garnier Fructis Hair Food Shampoo Bar - Watermelon.

The zero waste packaging: Reviewers loved that the shampoo bar was more eco-friendly than your average shampoo bottle, all thanks to the use of plastic-free, 100 per cent FSC recyclable cardboard packaging.

It effectively cleansed hair: Members said they were surprised but they were able to get a decent lather going with the shampoo bar. And subsequently, they found their hair was effectively cleansed too.

It left hair silky and shiny: The detangling, volumising watermelon-infused formula helped to impart shine and left strands feeling soft and silky post-shower.

The verdict

“The Garnier Fructis Hair Food Shampoo Bar in watermelon is amazing! It's so easy to use and lather through my hair and smells absolutely amazing! It was very easy to rinse out of my hair as well. I love the fact that it is zero waste being a bar and not a liquid shampoo in a bottle too. My hair was soft and shiny after use and it smelt great too. It thoroughly cleaned my hair and my greasy hair stayed clean for three days before I even thought about washing it again. I highly recommend this shampoo bar to anyone who cares for the environment and is trying to reduce their waste.”

“This was my first time using a shampoo bar and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. I must admit I was quite skeptical at first but it quickly changed my mind. I loved the environmentally friendly packaging. It smells amazing not only after washing but lasts a few days. Left my hair super shiny and silky. Application was really easy, I was expecting it to be a bit difficult, but it lathered nicely and quickly. Definitely would purchase in future and recommend.”

“I have used the Garnier Fructis Hair Food Shampoo Bar - Watermelon for a couple of weeks and I can say that I'm more than happy with the product. The main thing is that this shampoo compared with bottle/liquid shampoo is zero plastic waste, which is awesome. I have oily hair and this shampoo bar did the job well, I did not see any difference compared with bottle/liquid shampoo. The shampoo bar is very easy to use, just follow the instructions. The watermelon scent is strong, I can smell it even after a shower. Next time that I need to buy shampoo or conditioner I would be considering buying a bar instead of liquid. I would definitely recommend this product to my family and friends.”
