The hair, skin and nails supplements we recommend
Boost the health of your hair, skin and nails from the inside out
Beauty Crew Contributing Editor / January 03 2019
We all know that what we eat can have an impact on how we look and feel. Inside-out beauty involves eating a healthy, well-balanced diet and loading up on antioxidant-rich and vitamin-packed foods that help improve our body function, which in turn has a beautiful effect on our skin, hair and nails (literally). And while we definitely think eating right is imperative to your natural beauty, we also know that sometimes you need a little help getting there. That’s where supplements come in.
These days, there are SO many supplement options available, and in every form - capsules, powders, liquids - that it can be hard to pick the right one for you. We’ve talked about various supplements before, from the ones that help clear skin to the best supplements for women over 40, plus, our picks for active women. But if you’re looking for an all-rounder then hair, skin and nails supplements are a good place to start.
We asked our Beauty Crew team and SUPERcrew members to share their reviews for the hair, skin and nails vitamins they’ve used and loved.
#5 / Swisse Hair Skin Nails+
Boosting the formation of collagen, thanks to silica and vitamin C, these supplements help improve skin by protecting it against free radical damage and strengthening connective tissue for smoother, younger-looking skin, as well as making hair look glossy and healthy. As for your nails, biotin strengthens brittle nails so they’re less prone to breakage and splitting.
The review: “I bought Swisse Hair Skin Nails+ when I was struggling with anemia just to give my nails and hair a bit of a boost. I do believe that the supplement is working as my nails got really strong and stopped splitting so much.” Anita, SUPERcrew member
#4 / Bioglan Inner Glow Beauty Water
If your skin, hair and nails always look dull, there’s a good chance you could do with a hydration top-up. This powder is enriched with coconut water and aloe vera (both super hydrating for dry skin and hair); zinc and vitamin C to help heal damaged hair, skin and nails; blue spirulina to protect against future damage; and hydrolysed collagen and collagen type 1 and 3 from Verisol® real collagen peptides to nourish and boost the appearance of skin, hair and nails over time. You can drink this powder (just add two teaspoons to a glass of water) or mix it in with yoghurt or a smoothie for a subtle citrus flavour.
The review: “I was sceptical whether this would work, but I am a convert! My nails definitely became stronger, and my hair was shinier looking. Easy to drink and reminds me to keep hydrated, too.” Georgia, SUPERcrew member
#3 / The Beauty Chef Glow Inner Beauty Powder
In addition to improving the look of hair, skin and nails, this berry-flavoured certified organic powder will help boost gut health, too. A high dose of antioxidants in the formula helps to ease skin redness and irritation; zinc ensures your skin, hair and nails are healthy; vitamin C boosts collagen synthesis; while prebiotics and probiotics keep your gut happy and healthy.
The review: “I love how it is full of probiotics (along with so many other nutrients!) and it actually tastes really good unlike so many similar products.” Mandy, SUPERcrew member
#2 / Beauty Boosters Glow Getter
High in zinc, biotin and riboflavin vitamins for skin repairing and tissue formation as well as nail and hair growth, these tablets work to maintain glowing skin, thicker hair and stronger nails when taken daily. They are made in Australia and vegan-friendly.
The review: “Previously I’ve been somewhat sceptical about whether beauty supplements actually do anything, however I have heard nothing but good things about the Beauty Boosters range so thought I should try them for myself. I’ve been diligently taking Beauty Boosters Glow Getter for the last few months now and can I just say – the hype is REAL! My hair and nails are looking so incredibly healthy. I’ve never had strong nails in my entire life and I now have these incredible talons that I actually need to cut and file. Previously my nails just broke and never got to the stage where they needed to be cut. I’m now telling all my friends about these and am totally converted.” Isobel Larkin, Beauty Crew’s Beauty Assistant
#1 / Vida Glow Beauty Skin
This cacao and maple-flavoured powder is as tasty as it is hard-working. It is rich in omega 3s and nutrients like chia seeds, flaxseeds and raw cacao to help improve cell regeneration, tissue repair and collagen and elastin production, so your hair, skin and nails look and feel better. The formula is also vegan, 100 per cent natural and contains no gluten or dairy.
The review: “I have been using the Vida Glow Beauty Skin powder for a few weeks now. It’s not only delicious (I like to mix it with yoghurt but you can also add it to a smoothie), it’s also high in antioxidants, supports digestion and reduces inflammation – which all help to boost the health of your skin, hair and nails.” Sally Hunwick, marie claire’s Beauty Director
