There is something deeply fascinating about discovering the beauty products and tools celebrities use on a daily basis. But what is more interesting (and perhaps more worthwhile) is discovering the beauty buys the experts themselves use.

After all, it’s their job to know what products work best, so surely their beauty cupboards include only the crème de la crème of products. We wanted to know exactly what hair products get the pros’ tick of approval so we reached out to seven of Australia’s top hairstylists, who happily shared the top hair products they can’t live without.

Simon Bright, Creative Director of Jonny+June

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer
“This is both the king and queen of hairstyling tools. I love the fact that it’s small, lightweight (so arms don’t get tired or heavy), has four heat settings and three different speeds. I find that it smooths hair and promotes shine whilst blow-drying, and dries hair faster with control precision.”

Mr. Smith Hairspray
“This is the ultimate finishing spray. This hairspray is PETA certified and sulphate- and paraben-free. It’s weightless yet strong and leaves hair with soft movement while still being easy to brush. I love that it gives you ultimate control but without stickiness.”

Jonny+June Original Balm
“This is my go-to product as it suits every type of hair and need. It’s a lightweight leave-in treatment that combines certified organic ingredients and a gentle citrus aroma. The formula provides anti-ageing benefits [to hair], promotes hydration, detangles, protects strands from heat styling and colour fading, and smooths hair and combats frizz whilst blow-drying. Did I mention it’s also organic and vegan?!”

L’Oréal Professionnel Smartbond Step 3 – Conditioner
“I love this product because it has strengthening qualities, which keeps blonde and coloured hair in the best condition. Anyone who has any type of coloured hair should use this product.”

Kérastase Paris Elixir Ultime
“I love this versatile beautifying oil because it can be used on all hair types. It has an added bonus of protecting hair from heats as high as 220 degrees. Unlike other oils on the market, it’s clear so it prevents any type of discolouration [like] unwanted warm tones!”

L’Oréal Professionnel Serie Expert Colour Corrector Blondes
“The reason I love this product is because it has anti-yellowing properties in it, which refresh and maintain blonde hair. It also makes colour look like it’s just been done.”

Renya Xydis, Creative Director at Wella Professionals Australia and New Zealand

Wella System Professional Luxe Oil Reconstructive Elixir
“After washing my hair, the first thing I put in it is Wella System Professional Luxe Oil Reconstructive Elixir. It soaks in instantly without making it greasy for instant softness, protection against mechanical stress and a high-gloss shine.”

Wella Professionals EIMI Thermal Image
“My go-to look for day-to-day is an ‘undone’ blow-dry. This is perfect for the salon as it looks fresh and full of volume, but I can also wear the look out in the evening (without looking like I have been in the salon all day!). I use EIMI by Wella Professionals Thermal Image as a super-light heat protectant before blow-drying with my Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer.”

Cloud Nine Waving Wand
“After blow-drying my hair, I like to add some soft waves to my style using the Cloud Nine Waving Wand on a low temperature control setting just on the mid-to-end lengths of my hair.”

Remington Schulz, celebrity hairstylist and Pantene Hair Ambassador

La Biosthétique Ceramic Brushes
“My favourite brushes are the ceramic brushes from La Biosthétique. They produce negative ions, which smooth strands by reducing the static charge of the hair. Plus, the ceramic body of the brush stores the heat of the hairdryer - making blow-drying super speedy.”

Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Foam Conditioner
“I use Pantene shampoo and the new Pantene Pro-V Foam Conditioner. Used in the shower in place of your regular conditioner, it's perfect for fine hair or hair that gets greasy quickly, as the air-light foam texture conditions without weighing hair down.”

Parlux Advance Light Ionic & Ceramic Hair Dryer
“My hairdryer is the Advance Light Ceramic and Ionic Hair Dryer from Parlux - it dries my hair super quickly and efficiently - and it's so lightweight.”

“I absolutely can’t live without this, it’s super versatile and does much more than just straighten your hair. Everyone’s favourite styles can be achieved with a ghd and it works on every hair type.”

Mr. Smith Serum
“After a colour or blow-dry, Mr. Smith’s Serum is the perfect way to add shine, smooth fly-aways or just give [hair] an all-round healthy glow. It’s super lightweight, too, so you can layer it on and your hair won’t go oily.”

Oribe Swept Up Volume Powder Spray
This powder gives grit and texture to limp hair. Add it to your roots and it will instantly create volume as well as soak up any oils, so you can also sub it in as a dry shampoo, too. I also love it because it comes with a pump in their packaging so you don’t need to sprinkle it on.”

Keiren Street, celebrity hairstylist and Head & Shoulders Ambassador

Head & Shoulders Suprême Smooth Shampoo & Conditioner
“My go-to shampoo and conditioner at the moment is the new premium range from Head & Shoulders – Suprême. The new formula incorporates the goodness of argan oil, [giving you] luscious, beautiful hair with a nourished, healthy scalp.”

Janeke Superbrush
“My favourite brush is the Janeke Superbrush. It enables you to blow-dry from wet to dry super fast, and most importantly, it puts less stress on your hair and scalp compared to conventional paddle brushes.”

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer
“It's so important to invest in a good quality hairdryer, as it will make your life so much easier. My favourite hairdryer is hands down the Dyson. This is a game-changer and a hairstyling kit essential! It cuts drying time in half, is lightweight and the diffuser is amazing to dry curly hair.”

Joey Scandizzo, celebrity hairstylist and founder of Eleven Australia

Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer
I love the Dyson because it’s lightweight, nice and quiet, and helps create shine on the hair. I also feel the benefits in my wrist as the Dyson is lighter than most hairdryers and when you are smashing out a bunch of clients each day, it can take its toll on your arms and shoulders, so this really helps.

Eleven Australia Miracle Hair Treatment
This is a must-have treatment for everyone. It has 11 benefits your hair will love: It protects against heat as well as UVA and UVB shields, controls fly-aways and is a super lightweight leave-in treatment that helps prevent split ends.

Eleven Australia Sea Salt Spray
This sea salt spray can be used to prep hair for every style, not just beach waves. It adds the perfect amount of grit to hair, creating the perfect foundation for any look.
