The commitment-free way to try a vibrant hair colour

Pink hair without the permanence? Find out what our Review Crew® thought

The product

If the thought of sporting pink, purple, blue or even green hair has always been tempting, but you haven’t quite had the guts to take the plunge, there’s a new commitment-free way to give in to the fun and festive colours: L’Oréal Paris Colorista 1-Day Spray and Wash Out formulas.

The 11 shades of the Wash Out hair colours can add some playfulness and fun to your hair for anywhere between two and 15 washes, without the scary commitment of a permanent hair colour.

Good to know:  L’Oréal Paris Colorista 1-Day Spray is available in five shades that colour your hair as instantly as they wash off, making them perfect for weekend wear that doesn’t leave any telltale signs come Monday morning.

Our Review Crew® put the range to the test.

The panel

Beauty Crew sent L’Oréal Paris Colorista Wash Out to women aged between 18 and 25 looking for a temporary way to try fashion coloured hair.

The lowdown

Here’s what the Review Crew® loved about L’Oréal Paris Colorista Wash Out:

How it added vibrant colour to their hair: While blonde testers noticed a much more vibrant result, brunettes were also pleased to discover that the Wash Out shade they’d selected had left a hint of colour that they loved. Some testers did pre-lighten their hair with the L’Oréal Paris Colorista Permanent Effects, and those reviewers found that helped give them a brighter result.

How easily it faded: While the time it took for the Wash Out colour to fade varied for testers (for some it washed out after two washes, for others it took five), most agreed that the fading process was an easy one, with no patchiness or streaks - just a softening of the colour used. Many commented that the ease of fading made it a great option for a spontaneous colour change.

How soft their hair felt: Most reviewers were happy to discover that the hair colour didn’t dry out their hair, but rather it left their locks feeling soft and manageable.

Good to know: While some testers opted for an ombre look, those with long hair who chose to do an all-over colour mentioned that they probably needed more than one tube. So if you have long or thick hair and want to apply the Wash Out from root to tip, it’s probably a good idea to purchase two bottles to ensure you’ve got enough product.

The verdict

“Worked amazing in my light blonde hair, fantastic idea for people like myself who like to try different colours without the damage and upkeep of regularly dying my hair. Like the 1-Day Wash, I will definitely be keen to try out all the different colours in my hair, and will definitely be recommending it to my girlfriends as well!”

“I am loving the pastel #Dirtypink, it lasts quite a while and fades even hotter with my ombre blonde highlighted hair!! It is good if you would like a 2 week change and wanting to try something new."

“I was lucky enough to trial the red washout colour. I have quite dark hair so I wasn't really expecting it to work that well, but it honestly left the ends of my hair like an red ombré and it looked so gorgeous...Definitely want to get my hands on the pastel colour, they would be so nice to try! Overall was a great product!”
