Clear skin isn’t just a promise with this serum pick

Here’s what our Review Crew® had to say about this skin-perfecting formula

The product

When it comes to treating breakouts, let’s be real, the whole process can quite quickly become disheartening.

There’s a wealth of skin care that claims to treat pervasive pimples but rarely are there any shining star formulations that standout amongst the crowd. We’re not in high school anymore and we need skin care that does what it says it’s gonna do. Period.

Enter: La Roche-Posay Effaclar Serum. A targeted serum treatment for the pimple-prone that combines BHAs, AHAs, LHAs and niacinamide. This budget-friendly pick micro-exfoliates, stimulates cell turnover, clears and minimises the appearance of pores, as well as breaking down sebum AND preventing moisture loss in the skin.

Here’s what our panel of Review Crew® testers had to say about this well-rounded serum.

The panel

Beauty Crew sent La Roche-Posay Effaclar Serum to a panel of women aged 25 to 44 who experience pimples, blackheads, breakouts, imperfections and fine lines and wrinkles.

The lowdown

Here’s what the Review Crew® loved about La Roche-Posay Effaclar Serum.

The way it reduced breakouts: Our members really liked that the serum effectively kept their breakouts at bay, with a few even saying this is the first time they’d noticed a considerable change in the frequency of their breakouts.

The way it softened and smoothed skin: Reviewers loved using the serum in the evening and waking up to baby soft skin, as well as a minimisation of any unwanted texture.

The fact it didn’t dry out their skin: Members loved that they didn’t have to worry about flaking or dry patches from the serum, unlike other pimple-fighting formulas they’d sampled in the past.

The verdict

“I have dry/combination skin, and tend to struggle with hormonal acne and congestion. I found consistently using this serum as part of my nighttime routine significantly reduced my breakouts and left my skin feeling soft and supple in the morning - and who can argue with that? I also saw a great improvement in the overall texture of my skin, thanks to the triple threat of LHA, glycolic acid and salicylic acid. Plus of course, the love of my life, niacinamide.”

“I have pores the size of craters and I'm prone to hormonal outbreaks, even at 30... using this, I've found that my breakouts are less severe and the redness reduces a lot faster. You do have to use it fairly consistently for an extended period of time to see the difference in the pores and long-term redness reduction on the cheeks. I did find though that I couldn't use this every day. But every second day was more than enough for me and my skin appreciated it even more. Would definitely repurchase this in the future.”

“This is my new daily serum, I suffer from adult acne at 33. I have been using this for a few weeks now and my skin is the clearest it’s been in years! It’s not over drying and I haven’t had any flakeyness which is great. I use this in the morning and a retinol at night and my skin has completely back flipped. It looks clear and fresh and I’m now working on the darker pigmentation and scarring. I highly recommend. It did tingle quite a bit the first time I used it but I got used to it quite quickly.. don’t forget your sunscreen with this one!!”
