Let’s play a quick game of ‘this or that’. Lipstick or lip gloss? Impossible. Blonde or brunette? It depends! But between thin and thick hair, we don’t know anyone who would choose ‘thin’ on purpose. Except, well, Lizzo.
Because despite ‘how to make thin hair thicker’ being one of the world’s biggest beauty searches, Lizzo is actually loving her ‘wispy’ era. Here’s the rundown…
Lizzo’s review of her ‘wispy weave’
The star posted a TikTok showcasing her brand new weave, raving about how light and ‘skinny’ it felt. “Y’all, I just got a skinny weave and I don’t know how to act. I used to love bundles and bundles and bundles on trundles and trundles and trundles [of hair]. I was like ‘make me look like the cowardly lion, bitch’,” she joked.
“But ever since I got this barely-there wispy weave… something about it has given me new energy for the year. It’s light as air, I could fly away bitch.”
How did fans respond to Lizzo’s thinner hair?
Commenters were quick to make quips about the ironic idea that thin hair had become a covetable celeb-approved aesthetic. Because not to place blame, but Hollywood was what made us all think that long, thick, luscious locks were the norm in the first place. Spoiler alert: they were usually always the work of extensions.
“Never thought my hair loss would become a trend,” one follower wrote. “As an alopecia girly, i’m screaming,” said another, while one joked “all us with b12 deficiency it’s our time to shine lol.”
Others, however, were appreciative of the thin hair hype. “I naturally have wispy hair.. I’ve never felt so seen. 🥰,” one creator shared. “Yes gas this hair up cause my hair is this way by default 🤦🏽♀️🤣🤣🤣,” another wrote. Leave it to Lizzo to completely reframe things!
So will we be running out to get wispy weaves of our own or asking our hairdressers to grab their thinning scissors? Not necessarily. But we certainly will be shaking the negative self-talk the next time we catch our hair looking too ‘thin’. Lizzo would like it!
