“I tried the eye serum that made me look more awake”

L'Occitane Overnight Reset Eye Serum

It’s perfect for anyone that hates wearing eye creams

Beauty Crew Beauty Editor / April 01 2020

Looking at my skin care routine, I’d say that my overall style is comprehensive but not complicated. My morning routine consists of using a hydrating serum, moisturiser and sunscreen, whilst my nighttime routine features a double cleanse with a cleansing balm and gel cleanser, followed by a brightening or retinol-based serum, before finishing with a nighttime moisturiser to keep all that hydration locked in overnight.

I know what you’re thinking - what about an eye product?! Well, to be completely honest… I don’t regularly use one because I struggle with the category. Many are thick and goopy, and leave your skin feeling sticky; something that’s not ideal in my books. Also for me, an overload of products tends to irritate the delicate skin around my eyes which definitely doesn’t look pretty.

But recently I was tasked with trialling  L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Eye Serum, an eye product that’s much lighter in texture than a cream. Surprisingly, I didn’t have the usual issues that I’ve had from eye creams in the past. In fact, I was a big fan.

To keep things fair, during my trial I made sure I kept up my usual skin care routine, and simply added the eye serum into my nighttime routine. Here’s what I liked about L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Eye Serum:

L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Eye Serum

#1 / It had a beautiful texture

The first thing I noticed about L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Eye Serum was how lightweight the formula was. Looking at the bottle, you see little yellow oil beads suspended in the translucent water-based formula. After distributing a pump of serum onto my index finger, the beads burst to combine the immortelle essential oil (that’s what’s inside the golden bubbles) with the rest of the serum to form a gel-like texture.

The formula spread really easily across my skin, and after massaging it around my eyes for about 30 seconds, it was fully absorbed. I was actually shocked by the lack of residue that was left behind!

My only issue with my first experience was that a full pump was too much, so I only used half a pump for both eyes after the first day. I applied it around my eyes with extra attention placed under my eyes as puffiness is one of my top concerns.

#2 / It was fragrance-free

One of my favourite features about this eye serum is that it’s fragrance-free. I don’t know about you, but I get overwhelmed when too many of my products contain a scent - they end up clashing with each other and give me a headache. So, bonus points were awarded to this serum which smelled like nothing at all. Score!

#3 / The skin-loving ingredients suited my concerns

After each application, the skin around my eyes felt smooth and looked really even, and I put it down to its clever formula. Inside, there’s ingredients like immortelle essential oil (it’s 100 per cent organic, and is a hero ingredient in a lot of L’Occitane products), marjoram extract, caffeine and other botanical extracts like calendula and liquorice which all work together to minimise the appearance of fine lines, diminish dark circles and puffiness, and make you look more awake. Here’s a before and after photo I took to check in on my progress:

The final verdict

Going by the photos above, it looks pretty impressive, right? You betcha, especially after just one week. Overall, L’Occitane Immortelle Overnight Reset Eye Serum was a joy to use, and I actually didn’t mind the extra step in my routine especially knowing how it felt on my skin, and even more so after seeing the before and after photos.

I can definitely see it being quickly loved by people who are either new to the eye skin care category or are looking to supercharge their skin care routine in the lead-up to winter by layering it under their existing eye cream.
