They’re the easiest way to pretend you’ve made an effort

From ‘90s-inspired hair clips and scrunchies to noughties headbands and bows, nostalgic hair accessories are having a *serious* moment and have pretty much dominated everything from our social feeds to the red carpet - and now they’re taking over the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2019 runway.
And we’re going to be truthful with you guys – we’re 100 per cent here for it. Because they look good. We love this trend for its style, simplicity and the lack of effort required – it’s basically the easiest way to jazz up your everyday hairstyle. What’s more, it’ll totally save you on those bad hair days.
Keen to get on board? Here are some of the best hair accessories spotted on the MBFWA runway - and we guarantee they’re about to become your new beauty staple.
Yes. You read correctly. Elastic headbands are back in, and don’t pretend you’re not impressed because we know you’ve got a stash of them somewhere in your bedroom - *everyone* wore these bad boys back in the day. Spotted on the Lee Mathews runway, models wore their hair styled in sleek high topknots, with a simple black headband. Lead Hair Director Nathan Gorman said the headbands were added along the hairline to help with, "Elongating the neck and making the focus the face and the flow of the clothing on the catwalk." It’s pretty much the easiest runway hair look we’ve ever laid eyes on, so naturally we’re going to be all over this.
Silk hair scarf
If there’s one hair accessory to invest in, make sure it’s a silk scarf, because there are a million and one ways to wear it. Take your cues from the Leo & Lin runway and wear it like a retro headband, with your hair worn loose or in a low twisted knot. Anyone else getting major European vibes?
Remember these?! We can almost hear your inner eight-year-old shrieking with joy. Also found on the Leo & Lin runway, some of the models switched up the silk hair scarf look by wearing multi-coloured braided headbands. With their hair tied back in low buns, the headband added a fun, playful touch to the entire beauty look. Come on, is this not one of the cutest headbands you’ve ever seen?
If there’s one hair accessory that’s making the biggest return, it’s the humble hair clip. Clips, slides, pins and barrettes are *literally* everywhere on the MBFWA runway and we can’t get enough of it. From pearl-adorned versions, to delightfully feminine and floral styles, we are ALL about this trend. Whether you layer yours on top of one another, slide them into your low pony, or use them to grow out your fringe, they’re a quick and simple way to step up your everyday hair look. Just check out these super cute clips from the Tigerlily show.
Guys, wearing baubles in your hair is a total *lewk* and we’re a little bummed that we’re only just discovering it now, because, how GOOD does it look?! We spied it on the Karla Spetic runway, where models showed off the most gorgeous pearl drops delicately scattered throughout their hair. Teamed with ethereal curls and super glowy skin, they looked like actual mermaids.
