There are some beauty brands that just hit all the right notes. Milk Makeup is one of those. Their stuff is playful, innovative, Insta-worthy and surprisingly fuss-free. But then you go to buy *all* the things and realise they’re not stocked in any Australian stores. But it’s too late - you’ve already fallen hard and you need answers.
So we’ve got them for you. Here’s what you need to know about the cult-favourite Milk Makeup brand and where to buy it in Australia.
What you need to know about Milk beauty products
Milk Makeup launched in 2016 by Milk Studios, a photography studio and creative agency in New York and Los Angeles. Milk Makeup was the brainchild of founders fashion and beauty editor Mazdack Rassi, E! News correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi, creative director Georgie Greville, and product developer Dianna Ruth, who just wanted to create cool beauty products. And more specifically, products that hadn’t been done before.
Another thing Milk Makeup prides itself on is being a clean beauty brand. Their products are all cruelty-free, leaping bunny certified and 100 per cent vegan, and you won’t find any parabens, sulfates, SLS, SLES, formaldehyde, mineral oil, or talc in their formulas. Ever.
Why the world loves Milk Makeup
Plain and simple: They make makeup and skin care that are multipurpose and perfect for time-poor busy gals who want to look great without spending hours in front of the mirror and fussing about with tools (their products go straight onto the skin and all you have to do is blend with your fingers. No makeup brushes required). On-the-go stick formulas are their speciality.
A lot of their formulas use Milk Melt Technology, which is this glorious blend of coconut waxes that melt into skin upon contact with body heat. It’s everything you love in products like cream blushes, in every step of your beauty routine. Read: They are DA BOMB for those of us who live for glowing, natural-looking versions of ourselves.
Ok, so now that you’re as equally hooked on the idea of these Milk cosmetics and skin care products as we are, we need to answer the all-important question - where can I buy Milk Makeup in Australia?
Where to buy Milk Makeup
As we alluded to before, if you want to get your hands on Milk Makeup in Australia, it’s not good news. There are no stockists of Milk Makeup here in Australia (hey Mecca or Sephora, can you help remedy this please?!) AND they won’t ship to freight forwarding locations (aka parcel forwarding companies like Australia Post’s ShopMate, Reship Australia and Shipito Australia) or P.O Boxes. Basically, it is *HARD* to get your hands on these products. But not impossible.
Cult Beauty in the UK stock Milk Makeup and ship to Australia. They’re the best option we can find. The only other solution we have is to beg a friend based in the US or UK or jump on a plane (hey, any excuse will do!). You can buy Milk Makeup in the US (at Sephora stores or online via their US website) and in the UK and Ireland at Cult Beauty.
What to buy from Milk Makeup (and the Aussie-available dupes for each)
If you’re trying Milk Makeup for the first time, it can be tough to narrow your wish list down to just a few things, because all their stuff is seriously lustworthy. Here are a couple of their most popular products, plus we’ve thrown in some dupe alternatives in case you prefer to buy local (or want to get your hands on something *now*).
#1 / Milk Makeup Blur Stick
Think of this solid primer stick as a real-life Instagram filter. It blurs pores, smooths skin texture, mattifies skin and makes makeup apply like a dream over the top. It’s also silicone-free, oil-free and non-comedogenic.
#2 / Milk Makeup KUSH High Volume Mascara
One of Milk Makeup’s best-selling products, what’s unique about this mascara is the hemp-derived cannabis oil in the formula that delivers a clump-free, extra nourishing finish while also giving your lashes amazing volume.
The dupe: e.l.f Cosmetics Volume Plumping Mascara
#4 / Milk Makeup Sunshine Skin Tint SPF 30
A rollerball foundation? Genius! This sheer, serum-like foundation is the best thing to happen to travel-friendly beauty in a long time. It has a dewy finish, a natural oil-infused and talc-free formula, SPF 30 sun protection and comes in eight shades. (Note: You can't actually buy this one from Cult Beauty UK due to their different SPF rules to the US, so you'll have to phone a friend for this one).
#5 / Milk Makeup Cooling Water
We told you Milk Makeup were into their stick formulas - their Milk skin care range included. This de-puffing and cooling gel-stick of stimulating caffeine and soothing seawater goodness can be used under the eyes or all-over to instantly energise skin and send dullness packing.
The dupe: Tonymoly Panda's Dream So Cool Eye Stick
