Ombré blush is the prettiest makeup trend to come out of 2022 so far

So stunning

Editor / January 12 2022

There’s no denying blush has become a base favourite in recent years. And it seems the rouge reign is set to continue in 2022, with ‘ombré blush’ one of the latest makeup trends taking off on TikTok.

Just like the ombré hair and skittle nail trends before it, ombré blush aims to create a multi-tonal effect using more than one blush shade.

Search the hashtag and you’ll find multiple tutorials like this one below by @caitlinnocom.

Creator @daniellemarcan posted about the trend as early as May last year, but it’s a video by @leilanikeaa dueted by @bexcxmpbell that’s fuelled the trend’s resurgence.

How to nail the ombré blush trend

1. You’ll need 1-3 blush shades

Cream and liquid blushes appear to be best suited for precise application and blending.

2. Apply from lightest to darkest or darkest to lightest

While most creators seem to apply their deeper shades of blush towards the temples, Leila Nikea did the opposite. She applied a purple shade to her apples and a raspberry shade above it. The results were just as pretty, so it’s worth experimenting both ways.

3. Blend well

Blend your blush from the centre of your face outwards. We recommend using either a stippling brush or a damp beauty blender.

3 blushes we recommend for trying the trend

1. ulta3 Blush Sculpt Stick, $9.95 at ulta3.com.au

2. Revolution Beauty Superdewy Liquid Blush, $10 at revolutionbeauty.com.au

3. Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, $34 at Sephora

Other 2022 blush predictions

In another video predicting more 2022 makeup trends, creator @laviniarusanda shared some further blush insights.

“I think blush is going to start going a bit higher and less on the nose area and cheeks,” she said. “For that really nice, lifted look, rather than keeping it down here (referring to her apples).”

Guess we’ll have to wait and see…
